Cloth Diapering

More Workhorse or AIO?

I'm gathering together a list of things to get for my NB stash on Earth Day. Right now I have 24 Cloth-eez Flats and 6 NB Workhorse diapers (no closure). I want something easy for H who is supportive of cloth for the saving money aspect but still has some "ick" issues when it comes to changes. Do you think I should just get a few more Workhorse diapers or should I explore some AIO diapers? I just love the price of the Workhorse compared to AIO lol.

  • I'd just do workhorses and make sure you have plenty of aplix covers. AIO's for the newborn phase are kind of a waste to me. They outgrow absorbancy so fast and are pricy. The only exception is newborn Simplex.

  • I would round out the stash with AIOs. I didn't have any for my NB stash but love how convenient they are. So easy a caveman can do it? But if you want to spend less, your husband will adjust to the flats and workhorses easily.

Thanks! That's what I was leaning more towards but I thought to ask you experienced ladies. Sometimes window shopping can be so tempting!

  • Its really just a preference.
I really dislike the AIOs that I have because they take so long to dry, and because they aren't really absorbent enough, so I usually need a doubler.

For an easier option, I would suggest a pocket. Usually cheaper than an AIO, and dry faster.

Lots of people do like AIOs though, so  like I said, it is just a preference, so it wouldn't hurt to get at least a couple to try. It can be harder to get a good fit on a nb with an AIO though.

If your H is willing to try, I would stick to cheaper, simpler options like what you have.

    Paying less is awfully nice...
I will probably be the one to do 90% of diaper changes anyway since I SAH and my husband works nights.

If you have flats and AIOs your H might prefer AIOs, but if you just have flats and fitteds he won't know what he is missing!  :D

We used mostly pockets for my oldest so he's familiar with them. But, I was wanting to explore options that we hadn't tried yet. I was scared of Flats the first time and unfamiliar with Workhorse.

  • I personally disliked aio's. Workhorses are still my favorites, even now!

  • I only have 3 AIOs. One was a freebie and two were used. I save them for extremely lazy moments and for grandma.

  • I love my workhorses and prefolds best of all. I'm thinking of trying flats. Maybe it's just bc my son is so small but I don't love my AIOs yet and I just like my pockets.
  • DH liked prefolds best during the NB stage. The AIOs and pockets we had in our trial just didn't fit very well.
  • I really like my Bumgenius. They have newborn and bigger liners or you can use both for overnight. They take a bit to stuff them after the wash but my DH and nanny who were resistant to the cloths really like them because they are so easy. The also have snaps so they expand width and lengthwise as they grow. I tried 2 piece bummis but didn't like them nearly as much.
