SCH and Physically active jobs

Hello all,
I am hoping to gain some experience and insight on working with a SCH. I'm almost 7 weeks, the doctors are giving lil bean a 25% chance at this point due to the large amount of bleeding I've had already, the location of the SCH to the embryo(or is it a fetus already?), and the HB. I have a job where I am constantly walking long distances, moving, picking things up, etc. I have bleeding everyday so far. My dr is also not interested in bedrest. I have done quite a bit of reading of boards, studies, and blogs. I have heard things both ways. I've seen losses and successes. My job already hates me due to a recent m/c in January, causing me to be off work for a week. They also hate me because, lets face it, when I'm pregnant my cardio abilities and brain functioning drops significantly. I have to go back to work Monday, and have a check-up US Tuesday morning, where the doctor expects to see no HB (she's positive, huh?)
I don't know what to do at this point. My modified bed-rest has seemed to not make me have serious bleeding episodes, but I know that going back to work will cause me to have more serious episodes, causing me to have to leave work. Thank you in advance for reading and responding!

Re: SCH and Physically active jobs

  • It sounds to me since you are having reoccurring issues, you need to move to a high risk doctor you trust who can talk you through your options.  Even if this pregnancy isn't viable, if you think your job is contributing to that, you'll be in the same situation soon enough, unless it is very difficult for you to get pregnant.  Can you move to a new position at work?  Can you get a less physical demanding job?  Can you afford not to work for a year (money and insurance-wise), and will that hurt your chances of working later?  If you need to keep working, can you afford to wait to get pregnant again?  If after your appt on Tuesday, you feel you are still in a position of choosing work or your pregnancy, you may want to get a second opinion.  If you are advised to miss work, you'll need to meet with HR and possibly get legal advice about what your employer must do.

  • Just wanted to say sorry you're having these issues and hope your ultrasound tomorrow gives you positive news.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • That is a tough decision to make, truly! I also was diagnosed with SCH early in my pregnancy so I know how you feel. I'm not sure what your status is with the need for the job you are at or whether this job is causing you a lot of stress. I know it's not easy, but maybe looking for another job might be the answer. Any job that causes health concerns is not worth it if you ask me.
  • Thank you all for your responses. I have gotten a work restriction from my Doctor, so work is now more do-able, but my bleed has grown and there is another new one, so that's not good.
    But thank you, all!
