Breastfeeding

Intro

Hi ladies :) I wanted to intro since I've been lurking around a bit and plan on popping over here more often.

DH and I welcomed our first baby, our four month old son this past December. DH is Asian and I'm white so our little guy is an adorable mix of us both. DH is working full time and have been staying home with baby since he was born.

He's been exclusively breastfed up until about three weeks ago. My supply seemingly suddenly dropped way down; I use to have oversupply, now I only get 1oz from one side and maybe 1-2 from the other at each pumping session. I've switched exclusively to pumping and giving him bottles so I can track what he eats, and supplementing with formula as needed.  I have no idea what happened and have been trying pretty hard to get my supply up again. LO use to be in the 60th % for weight, and dropped down to the 26% when my supply tanked. :( Now that we are supplementing I'm hoping to get both his weight and my supply up again.

Anyway, hope to see you ladies around! Thanks for letting me come play :)

Re: Intro

  • Thanks for the info :) - I am a bit naive to this which is why I'm here.

A little before three months baby started nursing every hour and was constantly crying to be fed. I assumed he was trying to increase my supply. I let him do this for close to four weeks, constant nursing and during those four weeks he only gained 4oz. I brought it up to the pedi a few times during this time frame which was when he was being weighed and eventually they suggested I pump and then supplement, so that's how I got to where I am.

During the night LO wakes up twice and he does nurse those two times. (I wasn't thinking about his evening nursing when I said exclusively pumping, so maybe I shouldn't use that term).

We do have a scale and I have been weighing him; since supplementing he's back to gaining about 4 oz a week instead of 1.

Sorry, that is so long >.< maybe I should switch back to just nursing, then try offering formula after if he needs more and see if he continues to gain as you suggested.
