Pregnant after IF

Change to MW

I did an IVF and pregnant with a singleton. With all the holidays It took us to move to a regular OB almost 11W. Now I'm 24W and I decided that I want a Natural Birth and a NB hospital with a MW, too. , and I don't want to deliver where my OB is afflitated to a different hospital. Do I have to tell them that I changed my mind of an OB to a MW?

Re: Change to MW

  • I assume your MW will want all your records and to have them transferred over you would have to let your ob know.

I had to sign paperwork stating I was moving practices.

  • I'm not sure how much info you have to give to your current doctor. My office is so big I just called the medical records people to get a copy of my records when I moved practices in a different situation.  I'd also make sure you cancel any scheduled appointments you have with the oB once you get set up at the MW practice so you aren't charged.  Good luck!

  • Lurking from SAIF. I switched to a MW from a massive OB practice (best thing I could have done!!!). I filled out paperwork at my MW office to transfer records. The MW practice took care of that end.

I just called the billing department at the OBs office to tell them I wouldn't be delivering with them (they didn't know me or care that I was leaving).  There is a global billing code that I wanted to avoid being charged with the OB. Then I called scheduling and cancelled my appointments (didn't say I was leaving, just said something came up and I would reschedule when I had everything sorted).

Good luck! Natural birth was an awesome decision for me.

  • I'm confused....do you have to tell WHO that you switched from an OB to a MW?

I switched, as well, and I didn't have to tell anyone.  I just called my OBs office and asked them to fax all of my paperwork over to my new MW's office.  They charged me $1/page (wtf?!?), but whatever I paid it and they did it no questions asked.  It happens all the time.

I haven't been charged anything for my OB visits, but I also switched in 2013 and with IVF and everything I had more than met my OOP max, so they couldn't have billed me anyway - so I'm not sure about the piece.

The only time it matters as far as where you're delivering is when you pre-register at the hospital.  At that point you'd obviously want to know where you're delivering.
