Soda cake?

I remember reading on here that if you take a box caked mix and a can of soda you can make a cake.  

Did anyone have success with this? Anyone flavors they recommend?

I am looking for a dessert for Easter that is easy/no fuss for DD with her egg allergy and I thought this may work.

I thought you had to put fruit under it? Like frozen peaches, the dry cake mix, and then dump a can of Sprite over the top...?
