confused......rash question

Ds's bottom was totally clear this morning.  I changed a poopy diaper and his bottom (behind sac, on cheecks and in crack) was red, like sunburned red, so I figured he was reacting to something in his poop.  So I cleaned him up (just use water on cloth wipes), sprayed some CJs on him, and diapered in flat with fleece cover.  When I changed him next time he was only wet BUT, he acted like it hurt when I patted his bottom with a water wet wipe and his bottom was still sunburned red.  So I put on the Desitin and a no butt diaper (aka sposie).  So now I'm confused, wouldn't his botttom look better at the second diaper change if it was just a reaction to the poop?  I've been practicing hand washing the flats but I'm fairly certain that it's not related since I hadn't gotten the handwashed flats folded until after I put the no butt diaper on him.  Thoughts?

A's poop rashes never cleared up immediately. I used a TTO/GSE/coconut oil spray and a baking soda bath to treat, and it would usually clear up overnight.

Yeah, I am with ITK. DS's rashes take some time to heal. To me it's a lot like having a sunburn or wind-chap.

Ok. So it was ds1's rashes (would go from bleeding rash to clear bottom in one change) that weren't normal. Good to know. Ds2 has had some poop rashes before but none this bad.

Jo's butt crack redness usually takes some time to go away. And it's usually from somethign I/she ate.
