Breastfeeding

Fatigue

I'm not sure if it's due to nursing or the pain pills from my c section, but whenever I am breast feeding I feel like the baby is sucking every ounce of energy out of me and I end up falling asleep. Does anyone feel like this?

Re: Fatigue

  • I frequently fell asleep in the early days. Recovery from childbirth takes some time, and you also had major surgery. Be sure to stay hydrated and eat balanced meals whenever possible. Make sure you are feeding LO in a safe location and/or have another adult around to keep LO safe if you fall asleep.

me too-- in fact it often helped me go back to sleep when DS woke during the night in the early months. but yes, as PPs have said, your body also went through labor and then major surgery (not to mention sleep deprivation), so you need time to recover. go easy on yourself and get lots of help from your family!

This, if it comes on suddenly when you're feeding. It's actually a good sign that you're body is releasing oxytocin, which then allies milk to letdown.

It will improve. I don't know when it went away, but at this point I can't remember the last time I had that sudden fatigue while nursing.
