Holla at my Georgians

I keep seeing more and more people represent from the great state of Georgia! I know we have discussed this before, but if you are a Georgian, come in and play! I want to know the odds of seeing one of you on the road in case I accidentally cut you off. So, without being creepy - what big city are you near? Are you OTP or ITP? How do you feel about the Braves stadium moving? Are you afraid to love again after the Falcons let us down last year? Tell me all.

Re: Holla at my Georgians

  • I'm a transplant Georgian. I'm in Savannah by way of Pittsburgh. I don't really care where the falcons go because the STEELERS are my boys!!! (Also not sure what otp and itp mean lol)

  • I am OTP north, near the Mall of GA. Closest big city is the A itself but I'm out in Gwinnett so we don't party too hard down there. I only care about the Braves stadium because it took me forever to master the ins and outs of the current one and I resist change in all its forms. I want the Falcons to either lose early so I can stop seeing "Rise Up" on my FB feed or for them to win it all so people aren't so depressed on my FB feed. I originally hail from Chattanooga, but have been a Georgian for 18 years.

I was born, raised, and live OTP and I fucking hate going ITP so the braves moving is a dream come true! I just love the thought of being able to walk to my car after a game and not worry about being mugged. the Falcons suck, they have always sucked, they will always suck. loving your shitty team is part of being an Atlantan.

specifically born in East Cobb, live in Alpharetta, desperately want to move back to East Cobb.
  • @jshrop - Savannah, woohoo! OTP and ITP is more of an Atlanta thing - it means outside the perimeter or inside the perimeter, aka where you live in relation to 285, which circles Atlanta. Do you like Savannah? I have always wanted to go.

@stephross, I lol'd several times while reading your post. Yes, you are only a true Atlantan if you accept that your teams will disappoint you every. darn. year. and to make your peace with that and wear your red and black anyway. The Braves are coming right to you! Nice!

  • @flerlgirl‌ I'm pretty pumped about it because I can avoid all major highways to get to the new stadium. HIGH FIVE!

  • @flerlgirl‌ I love Savannah. We moved here bc of the military. My husband had 2 more years and we are considering staying after he's done. We shall see though. We still have a house in PA and that's where all our family are from. I don't know how you folks deal with ATL traffic. I have driven most of the major cities (I've not driven Boston or NYC) on the eastern seaboard and Atlanta is by and far the absolute fucking worst. I hate it and avoid it at all costs!

Glad you love it! I hear wonderful things but just never made it down there. It's hard to live away from family, though! And it helps me to think that the person who designed our interstates/traffic flow was really angry at the world because his girlfriend dumped him on his birthday when he was about to propose and/or he was on meth and that's why it sucks so much. Something to amuse you the next time it takes you three hours to drive two miles.

  • @jshrop I love savannah! I went to college at GA Southern in Statesboro which is about 45 minutes up I-16 from savannah so needless to say there were many drunk nights spent down there. I still have a ton of friends who live there and I wish I could visit more.
  • Savannah is the shit! :) if you ladies get down here for a visit hit me up and I'll take you to my favorite establishments ;)

  • I live near you, OP. Also I am technically a May 14er but since I am the ass end of May, I hang out here sometimes too. :) I was part of that GTG that meladoriestar was organizing back in Feb. Anyway, I live about 10 mins from Mall of GA so realistically, we could totally run into each other!

Well, helloooooo. I know. @meladoriestar left us. It still hurts. If you see a silver van with a crazy lady inside it, that's probably me!!

  • Lol @stephross88‌.... Wellllll.... I avoid that place as much as possible. Too many tourists. I'm a fan of the bohemian roof top bar (if we are feeling swanky), the bar bar (basement joint that feels like home), and McDonoughs pub (when we are getting rowdy with the guys). Otherwise I'm talking FOOD! I've never lived in a place like this. I have yet to have one meal in savannah that I didn't love. (Well, except Lady and Sons and any if the chain restaurants Bleh) my husband and I always take out of town visitors to Churchills for either their English fare or their small plates. Delish.

I bet she is sad right now, still suffering through winter up in Chicago. Maybe we can convince her to come back at some point. I will be on the lookout for you! Haha. I seriously avoid that whole area like the plague on weekends though, too many people. I end up hanging around Hamilton Mill or Flowery Branch mostly.

She BETTER be sad. I avoid MOG on the weekends, too. Traffic makes me cranky. Sometimes I venture out to Target if I am feeling crazy!

  • @ugabamafans I am going out to Canton on Saturday! I will wave at you.

  • Hey there! I'm near columbus. I'm sad the stadium is moving (it will be further away from us and I love a stadium with history) but it will be closer to family so we can stay with them for late games :) we're going to the braves game next weekend! Excited! we aren't really falcons fans, so I'm ok there. Huge auburn fans, though!! And I don't know east those letters mean, sorry! :). How about you?

I think it's because it makes me feel old for one. Two, we are usually with a group of horney ranger boys who are all about "chasing tail." I always worry someone will get arrested lol.

  • @emilyh107 - the fear is part of the fun. Will you survive the Braves game? Will you have your wallet if you do? Stay tuned!!! I want to not care about the Falcons but so many people around me do... I should defriend them all.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • @ugabamafans‌ omg MLS really?? everyone is all excited yesterday and I'm like soccer? soccer sucks anyways but now we have another team for everyone to be pissed about them sucking. they're an Atlanta team- they have no choice but to be shitty.
  • @mrsdbc - no! But donuts... I will do anything for donuts. @stephross, we should experiment - take an amazing team and relocate them to the A and see how long it takes for them to become mediocre. That's the worst part - all the teams are good enough to give you hope for about 12 seconds. Bastards.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • @emilyh107‌ I feel like so many people want to eat at L&S and it is the worst we have to offer (again, besides the chains). There are so many amazing places to eat! I'm salivating just thinking about it.... Now I'm wondering if I can convince hubs we need to go out for dinner.....

@jenandbrett hay gurlllllllllll. Columbus in the hizzouuuuse. I've been there a few times; it seems nice! Woohoo for going to the Braves game! I hope they win or at least score the points. Auburn is way more awesome than UGA. THERE I SAID IT. The letters stand for inside the perimeter or outside the perimeter, which is how Atlantans describe where they live in relation to the perimeter that circles Atlanta. You are very, very, very OTP :)

@ugabamafans I HAVE LAPTOP CUSTODY TODAY!

OTP, technically live in the city of Jasper (yeah, way up there), but definitely closer to Canton/Waleska. I hail from Chicago, but spent most of my growing up years in Woodstock. DH works in Norcross, so we are probably moving to Cumming area within the next year.

All I know is that I'm going to the Braves game next Friday and I can barely navigate getting there in the first place, and hearing RISE UP makes me slightly annoyed.
Jasper, whew! That's a ways away :) Cumming is a nice area! My sister lives near there and they have fabulous shopping. Have fun at the game! FALL DOWN <-- the anti Rise Up?

@stephross88 - Is there still the minor league hockey team in Gwinnett?  Because those games were dirt cheap and full of drunk rednecks.  They were super fun to go to.
    Gladiators FTW!

  • What about some love for your neighbors? We live in Alabama (Bham), but DH's family is all in Douglasville, so we frequent there.

He is a huge Falcons fan, and is always angry during the season. I think the whole MLS in Atlanta is a little silly. Ya'll already have tons of teams there, share the love! I think an MLS team would do better in Birmingham... we have a pretty big soccer base here.

  • ITP. It SUCKS that the stadium is moving. There. I said it. I work 8 miles from my house and it takes an hour and a half to get home on Fridays, and I leave at 3 on Fridays!!! Traffic already sucks. Putting a stadium where traffic is heaviest is a dumb move.
