Re: UO

  • This might not be terrible, but with the way I see people consume it, I'd say I'm I'm the minority.

Ketchup is disgusting. I cannot do it. If I get something that has ketchup on it I have to drown it in mayo or mustard.

When I was pregnant I craved it much like ssm and her Mac and cheese. I'd put it on something then wouldn't be able to eat it.

I have thought this too. There are a few Duggar type families in this town and I think about then too.

  • Easter is the lamest holiday in a strictly commercial, non-religious manner of speaking.

  • I said it yesterday and I will say it again today. Cadbury chocolate is far superior to herseys (and nestle).
Also sleepers are jammies to me not clothes. I don't leave the house wearing jammies so therefore neither does my baby.

The only time my LO goes out in a sleeper is when she is going to her Gigi's house for the day and is still asleep. But if we are going out in public she gets real clothes. One time at church she ended up in a sleeper because she peed through her outfit and it was all I had to put on her.

And just to irritate KateMW - peeps are the most disgusting candy evarr. ;)
With the Peeps I am with you 1000x.....ugh they are nasty. My oldest DD brought a cupcake home from school yesterday with a peep on top. TOTALLY ruined the cupcake IMO.

Maybe it's because I grew up in a small town where it's kind of common? I think the women who have said it were just brought up that way. I have never called another woman either one of these but I have never been offended by it simply because it wasn't in a 'patronizing tone'.

My best friend calls me "babe" she always has and at first it bothered me but that is just her way of talking. Its her speech pattern so I got over it after like a year or so. I have been called sweetheart and hun as well by people and I don't bat an eye but maybe its from being around my bestie for all these years. Either way I figure I could be being called worse.

Super creepy! My kids won't be doing pictures either, DS is 5 and saw him at the mall last week and was still terrified.

    Not to mention ABSURDLY expensive.

E is only 4 months old and even she knew there was something not right about the giant bunny:

That is the creepiest bunny I've ever seen! Ick.

    But what is the age???
At least 4 months. When mom and baby are ready.

Sleep experts, including Ferber, state that 4 months is the youngest a child should be sleep trained.

  • Agree. That bunny is terrifying. DH was at the mall with G man yesterday, and he didn't take him for a photo, mostly because he was worried I would be mad that I missed it. Not. at. all.

I'm not sure if this is a UO, but I really hate all the water I have to drink to keep my supply up for BFing and pumping.

Running to the restroom every fifteen minutes is bothersome. It is like being pregnant all over again.
I'm not even forcing myself to drink tons of water anymore. I never saw an increase because if it and I read on kellymom that increasing water intake doesn't make your supply go up. I try to drink a decent amount, but I'm not drowning myself at this point.

    Fine, I'll play.

I don't like it when DH is hugged by business associates.  He's a trader at a hedge fund, which means that he is a client of most of the major wall street banks, all of which hire especially beautiful women to support their male dominated business partners. One of them, from probably the most prestigious bank, is a HUGE hugger.  She hugs DH basically because he exists.  He was playing in a PGA pro-am last year and she had tickets through her bank and basically seeked his pro out so she could say hi to DH.  I was with DH's mother on the other side of the hole and saw her go over and hug him.  He must have known I saw it because then he suddenly started motioning for me to come over, and I, oh so mature, refused.  later he told me he wanted to introduce us.  Pffft.

So, yesterday DH texts me and tells me he's going out this evening because Ms. Ilovetoembrace got him and a friend tickets to a private viewing of the NY Auto Show.  The zinger: HE'S NO LONGER HER CLIENT BECAUSE HE SWITCHED FUNDS.  I know that the hugging will abound!

But, yeah, to wrap it up, don't hug my husband if you only know him professionally.  In fact, meet his hand, because that's all you should ever be touching - AND ONLY YOUR HAND SHOULD TOUCH IT.
K, but if I get to ever randomly meet you and your husband in the future, I'm hugging the sh!t out of you both!

    Oh hell yeah.

I was coming here to post this exact thing. In fact, we're starting sleep training next week after we get back from being out of town.

Last night, DS wouldn't sleep unless he was held. Every time we put him down, he would wake up. And then 3:30 came around and he just decided to be awake. Until 6:30. And then DD woke up. So I got about 3-4 hours of broken sleep. This is not abnormal for us and it needs to fucking stop. Not just for my and DH's benefit, but DS is also extremely sleep deprived.

I look at sleep as a skill. Just like any other skill, it comes naturally for some but not for others. It often needs to be taught. I promise you, my family will not function properly if any member of the family consistently wakes up in the night for a length of time.

You volunteering to be in the hot seat?  :)  Blow us away with your super controversial UO!

I think baby leggings are worse than headbands and baby tuxes combined.

I think "I'm a FTM" is used as an excuse to be a complete neurotic loon by some people.

I think, based on things I've seen on The Bump, that people should most certainly have to pass some sort of test to have a kid.

Shut up. I love baby legs. I have made a million pairs for Amelia!! They're so cute!

My sil always posts pictures of her almost 2 year old in nothing but a diaper all the time. It's just weird. I don't like diaper pictures....unless they're cloth diapers...then it's cute. Make sense? Not really, but it's true.

Eta: dang it, apparently I don't know how to quote

I don't understand why people would celebrate Easter for non religious purposes

    Because Reese's eggs. Duh.

I am religious, but there are a lot of secular things to do to celebrate Easter. Dying eggs, the Easter bunny, egg hunts, baskets, etc. People can enjoy all of those things without thinking about Jesus.

Sure but its my UO that I find that odd.
Especially considering that the Easter bunny and eggs and all that stuff symbolizes Jesus rebirth. So how is that not thinking about Jesus?

Regardless to each his own. I'm sure Jesus isn't up there saying "oh no you didn't just go on a egg hunt and not think about me !"

Do you mean any kind of sleep training or do you mean specifically Ferber/CIO?

I am totally ok with sleep training, as long as they are built in supports and reassurances.

I was speaking of CIO, but not extinction. Ferber has built in supports with the timed checks and assurances.

There are a lot of things that babies can get away with that adults can't. Shitting their pants, for one. Wearing pajamas in public is another.
    ---------------

Seriously. If your baby is clothed appropriately for the weather, who cares. It's a baby for crying out loud. It's not like an adult leaving the house in character flannel pajama pants (the only piece of clothing I judge being in public)

Agreed. It's been so cold and I would rather have her feet covered up in footie pj's then her kicking off socks and looking cute while freezing.

We already sleep trained, using extinction. Boom. And I'm not sorry -- it worked like a charm and now everyone is sleeping better.

(Just for going to sleep and night and naps -- not for night wakings. She still wakes 1-2x a night to nurse and then goes right back down.)

TB is extremely anti-CIO (which is, in itself, a pejorative term), MUCH more so than parents in general, IMO. Sleep training both of our kiddos at a young age was one of the best things we ever did as parents.

I am not religious, and I love easter for the eggs, hunts, and also just a celebration of spring! Plus... chocolate! :) I also sometimes participate in lent, mostly just as an exercise in abstaining from something that I feel I am too dependent on.

Exactly. Eggs, the bunny... all those things that represent Christ's resurrection are also just a celebration of Spring, new life, etc.

Sure, they're a symbol of that to you, but to me they are just colorful eggs and silly bunny rabbits.  I'm with you on the celebration of spring and new life.  Since I don't believe in Christ (UO? FFFC?) then they don't carry any further weight.

    Not just me.
I understand that you use it to celebrate spring but you can't argue where it originates from ( you in general )

The same goes for Christmas. I think a lot of people celebrate and partake in traditions that all stem from religious symbols.
the 12 days of Christmas was a song created to teach the religion without being prosecuted for it.
As a religious person I hold these holidays very close to my heart. It's sad it's commercialized to the extent it is.
So many people have died over religious beliefs. I thank God we have the freedom of religion.
Anyway Celebration of life is good.

--- Actually most boards here are pro-CIO. The fact that this month board seems to skew anti is a rarity. In my experience going through another bmb and tri/month boards two years ago. While it's not for me, I'm not against it, if done correctly. It's only a problem when you get idiots like a woman on my last month board who, when her baby was learning to stand, let her scream for an hour standing and holding onto her activity table rather than helping her sit. That's fucking cruel.
That IS cruel. WTF? You teach her to get down. That's a no-brainer.

I don't have a problem with extinction. It's just not what I did with DS1 or plan on doing with DS2. I haven't read the research on extinction like I have Ferber.

I'm glad you were able to give your family the gift of sleep!!
