Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Boppy vs. My Brest Friend

Went to a breastfeeding class through our hospital last night, and the lactation consultant teaching recommended the My Brest Friend nursing pillow. Mainly because the loop and clasp around the back allows for a more steady surface to keep baby near the breast without it drooping like a Boppy would.
But I know more parents who have used and liked the Boppy, not only to feed, but as a support for baby to lounge on during play time.

Thoughts?

Re: Boppy vs. My Brest Friend

  • I have a boppy upstairs and the MBF downstairs. MBF was more c/s friendly for me and kept baby in place. The boppy allows baby to fall down into the crack between you and the pillow. I do like using the boppy as a prop for baby when I need to put her down when I'm working on something upstairs. I have a bouncy chair downstairs that I use as well.

  • I have a regular boppy and a travel boppy, and they both work just fine.  For me, the trick is to make sure I'm sitting up fairly straight when I position the baby.  Once he's latched on I can slouch a little bit or lean back or whatever.  The regular boppy definitely has a little bit more support than the travel boppy, but they both work great for me.   Also, I had a c/s, and had ZERO issues using either boppy immediately after LO was born.  Neither pillow came anywhere near my c/s scar.

  • I've been using a Boppy for 8 weeks and it's okay. I'd be interested in trying the other, but not enough to buy it. By now, my Boppy is getting misshapen and lumpy. I do try to fluff it.

  • I'm just going to throw my two cents in. I have a Boppy and rarely used it. I used regular pillows for propping my arm, but my Boppy didn't really help. Maybe that's because I have some extra cushion around my midsection that I could "prop" her on

  • I had issues with breast feeding when I first had my baby.  I bought a boppy when I was still pregnant b/c I liked that the baby could enjoy it for propping.  As a breast feeding pillow, not a fan.  I LOVE my brest friend and even though breast feeding is MUCH easier for me now, I still love using mbf. The boppy wasn't a complete waste though.  Baby likes to sit up in it and I'm sure when she's older she'll still enjoy it.
  • I have a "mombo" brand pillow I LOVE. It is foam and much firmer and keeps its shape versus boppy in my opinion.

  • I have both. Love the boppy for propping the baby up. Sucks for breastfeeding cause the baby falls in the crack.my brest friend is amazing for breast feeding. Get both
