Okay, turns out we do still read here! Please post your suggestions for our next book here. The book club is open to everyone. For the newbs, so far we have read Bonk, The Time Traveler's Wife, and Unbroken. (I feel like I'm missing one...?) Suggestions will be voted on eventually. Once the winner is chosen, we'll establish a time line of when to get the book and how much to read before the first check-in. Note: Corpororal punishment is administered to any participant who does not meet the establish reading guidelines.

Re: We do read! What next?

  • The Help came in a really close second when we did The Time Traveler's Wife.  Maybe we should see if there's still interest in that one?
  • Loading the player...
  • Read it.

Has everyone already read the Divergent series?

  • I read The Help but it was a long time ago. I'm willing to read it again. I can also do Divergent again as I really want to discuss that book. Can we keep a separate thread for each chapter or chunk of the book this time, instead of a day of the week? That way people who are ahead or behind can discuss where they are.

    I've read The Help.

    What about Midwives of Venice?

EDIT:  It's been recommended to me by several different people

I'm always up for reading something I've never heard of.

  • I have read The Help.  I donated the book and prob. would not buy/rent it again.

I would be game for NIght Circus or Divergent.

I am excited to participate this time now that I have had DD#3 and things are settling into a groove a little better now.  Nursing the baby and having a 15 mo. old getting into everything is still a bit of a challenge though.  And BFing was when I did all my reading with DD#2.  Now when I am BFing DD#3 I am playing lifeguard.  We'll see if I can keep up.
  • I would love to read the Divergent series! I was just thinking I need to get back into reading.

  • I've never heard of any of these books (I swear I used to read all. The. Time) so I'm up for anything. I just hope it's by a better writer than the unbroken lady.

I can vouch for The Night Circus.

  • Night Circus is AH-MAZING
  • So for voting we should have a poll with the summay description of each book, yes?

  • I actually really like long books, but I can't commit to reading one on schedule for the book club.  I need to go at my own pace to keep interested.
  • True. I read the first book really quickly though. It was the 4th book that took forever.

I forgot about GoT. I liked the story line in the TV shows, but the nudity threw me off. (When  I later saw Peter Dinklage on Sesame Street, all I could think about was him rolling in zhe hay with two chicks.) Anyway, I've heard the books are good, so I will probably read them and pester you to talk about them, @Nana_Osaki06. PS Could you please change your SN so that it's easier to remember how to type? K? Thanks! ;)

Edited b/c I still didn't get the SN right. Derp.

  • I want to join, so I'm down for any book. I have cuckoo's calling waiting for me to read more, and divergent is still in its shrink wrapping. So there is a slight preference. The mists of Avalon is a great read, and it's been years since I've read it. Yay books!!

  • @Nana_Osaki06‌ I've read all but book 5. I read them back in like 2004 when no one knew who George R R Martin was. Nerd here. I've also read a lot of Piers Anthony. If you know who that is I may fall out of my chair!

I know who Peirs Anthony is. DH used to read them long before me, and I read one just b/c I wanted to see if he was pulling my leg about sandwich trees and whatnot.

  • The Night Circus is amazing! Really, really amazing.

What about Outlander by Diana Gabaldon? It's long but it's filled with dreamy Scotsmen.

  • Bumping this back up in case anyone else has a book suggestion. @stoneycakes or I will post a poll so we can vote on what to read in the next day or two. So far the suggestions are:

Divergent (Series or just book 1?)
    The Help
    Night Circus
    Cuckoo's Calling
    Mists of Avalon
    Outlander
    Midwives of Venice

I apologize if I left any out. DS just woke up fussing, so I've got to run. We'll get links to the Amazon summaries set up in the poll.

Go for it, potter! I'm stuck with my kindle until nap time, so polling is a pain. Please be sure to link the Amazon summaries if you don't mind.
