Hair loss in LO

This is a stupid FTM question but I didn't find it covered anywhere. My LO is now 4 wks and tonight during his bath had a major hair loss in just a matter of a few minutes. It came out in clumps in my hand! He is now bald on the entire top of his head and is loosing more as we speak. It's so sad! He had a lot of hair! I know some hair loss is normal in newborns but this seems excessive. I've sent an email to the ped but does anyone here have any experience?

No experience...but I am one of 10 kids. My baby had a TON of hair when she was born. It hasn't fallen out yet but I remember my mom remarking casually "oh such pretty hair, it's a shame it'll probably all fall out."

As someone who has 10 kids, she would know IMO!

My guy is 4 weeks and loses more hair by the day. I'm so sad but ped says it's totes normal. It eventually comes back.

My son had cradle cap, and all his hair fell out on top of his head. He was rockin' the Friar Tuck look for months! It grows back...his was dark at birth, and eventually came back blond...

I'm not sure about losing it all at once. DS1 lost all his newborn hair when he was about 3-4 months old, but it fell out gradually, not in clumps.

Levi's was so dark and relatively thick all over when he was born, now it's just long and dark in the back and thin and blond in the front... Mullet style. I guess it's all fallen out and coming in lighter. My mom said I lost all mine right away too and it came back in strawberry blond, then it did it again and came in dark brown, which is how it stayed.

Mia has a receding hair line! Haha
All her baby hair is falling out and her "real" hair is coming in lighter!

Thanks ladies. I feel better about it now. Not gonna lie, I freaked a bit. And maybe cried. Maybe.

My kid's rockin a skullet right now. He was born with a full head of hair and now the entire top is gone. And I see his little hairs all over his changing pad.

Here's a pic of the skullet :P As you can see, the sides are lengthy but the top is just fuzz. I hope it grows back soon! He looks like an old man, haha.

Sounds normal. No experience with the hair coming out in clumps but both my kids gradually lost it (LO is still losing it). DS was born with a full head of dark brown hair. Within the first month or so he was completely bald. Then sometime after his 1st birthday, it started growing back. He's a dirty blonde now! As for LO, she's bald on the top now but still has hair on the sides and back. She looks like a balding old man!

Baby girl has a full head if hair and hasn't lost any yet. But it does get rather greasy fast. And I was told it will all fall out and probably come in curly her dad is from Africa so I'm expecting nice curly hair! In hoping for no frizz though. A girl can dream
