Night shift

So I am EP and it is going well, I typically get between 35-40 oz a day but I am going back to work in a couple weeks. LO is 10 weeks old now. I work night shift 7pm-7am, 3 days a week. right now my lo sleeps all night and I usually pump around 11pm and then not until 7 am. So when I return to work should I pump throughout the night when I'm working or should I still go from 11p-7a without pumping and pump throughout the day when I will be sleeping? Im afraid my supply will decrease when I return to work, but I also don't want to pump when at night when I'm working and then not pump when I'm home. Sorry if this is confusing but it would appreciate any advice on others who work night shift.

Re: Night shift

  • I work that shift three days a week (I'm a nurse) and waking to pump during the day is not an option or else I can not safely function. I personally pump at night when I'm at work and I produce my largest amount in the middle of the night actually. And when am off I feed and pump throughout the day with no issues.

  • Do you pump through the night when you are not at work as well? That's what I'm not sure of is if I want to continue sleeping all night when I'm not at work but if I pump the 3 nights I am I will get engorged again where now my body has adjusted and I'm not uncomfortable when I wake up.
  • When I'm off I stay up a little later 1130/12 and pump right before bed and my DD STTN and wakes at 4/5 to eat and go back to sleep this works for us but you may need another pump in the middle of the night
