Hypnobirthing

I was looking into hypnobirthing and became very interested because I'd like to try to give birth naturally without any pain meds, however, the classes are very expensive. Has anyone self-taught themselves hypnobirthing? I know there are books/CDs available and was wondering if anyone has had any success with them. Thanks!

Re: Hypnobirthing

  • Just lurking here, you should check out the Natural Birth Board there was a similar posting a few days ago.

I did Hypnobirthing and loved it!  Had such a great experience both times!  However, it is not meant to be a self-study course, so the information provided in the book and Rainbow Relaxation CD is incomplete.  You really have to go to the class if you want all the information.

Hypnobabies has a self-study course, it's about the same price as the class but perhaps you could find it second-hand on Craig's List?

If you have any other questions about my experiences, feel free to ask, I'm happy to talk about it :)

Just started this and I'm loving it!

You can usually find used sets on Ebay/CL/etc for a little less than the hypnobabies website.  Also, if you sign up for the hypnobabies newsletter, there is often a coupon code for a certain percentage off each month.  My brand new set ended up being around $140. (I originally bought a used set off Ebay but had a problem, returned it, and just didn't want the hassle of buying another used.)

Another vote here for the hypnobabies home study course!  I'm about to start week 3 of the class and so far I love it!

  • I saw the Hypnobirthing book at Barnes and Noble last weekend. I'm sure picking that up will be helpful and wayyyy cheaper.

  • I'm currently doing the Hypnobabies course from home. On week 2 and I love it. I actually picked it up from one of the ladies over on the Natural Birth board that was selling her copy after her successful birth of her LO. It was only $100 and she took care of the shipping.

Actually no. Hypnobabies is by far superior to hypnobirthing.

What makes you say that?  Have you done both?  I loved hypnobirthing and had a pain-free experience with it, so I would say it did the job.

That being said, I would agree that merely reading the Hypno book would not be enough.
  • I read the hypnobirthing book and practiced the meditation nightly for the last 8 weeks of my pregnancy with DS and was very happy with the experience. I'm sure you would get way more from the class but if it not in the budget for time or money you can still use the techniques. I had a pain med free induction and will be using the techniques again
