Job Reposting & Reapplying Question

In mid-March, I saw that a job had been posted in early January at a company I am interested in, so I submitted my resume. Since it had been more than 2 months I thought I might be late to the game, so I emailed the HR director to ask if the position was still available. No response.

The position was reposted yesterday. I'm not sure if the lack of response was because they aren't interested in me, or because I was so late with my application. The job is not in my exact area of expertise, but I think I made a pretty good case about some of my relevant experience and transferable skills in my cover letter. Should I apply again? I mean, I guess it can't hurt.

It can't hurt, if anything it will show you are interested. I always advise against applying for a lot of jobs in one company, it makes you look unfocused, but if it's the same job it makes you look interested/focused.

  • It can't hurt.  Reapply.  They may have reopened the position because they didn't get any candidates they liked last time, sure, but it also could have been some goofy internal issue like funding or approval or an internal candidate falling through.

  • I would totally reapply. Can't hurt.

I agree, if they notice your repeat application it makes you look focused/really interested.

Also, maybe they hired someone and it didn't work out for some reason. Or like PPs have mentioned, funding issues, etc.

    Good luck!

Good to know. :) I will have to calm down with a local college then.

Yeah, I was a corporate recruiter and our computer system told me at the very top of an application how many and what jobs the applicant had applied for and it does not look good if they had applied for 20 different jobs in numerous departments. Now if they are all similar jobs, like all in Brand Marketing, that wouldn't set off any red flags.

  • Definitely reapply.  It could have been a funding issue, or a lot of times, they'll go through the first round of apps and interviews and not find anyone they like enough to hire, so they'll relist and start over.

    Good luck!
