Trouble TTC

I'll take this as a sign....

My RE is leaving my office and switching offices at the end of the month and I was debating to stay or switch. She wanted me to schedule a SHG before she leaves and it's Day 3 and no one in her office has called me back yet to schedule!

I'll take that as a sign to switch to her and hopefully her new office will actually call me back! I love my RE but it was further away, but her new office does have higher success rates and I think it will be cheaper for us for our portion OOP.

I'm just hoping that I don't loose too much time switching over, but hopefully I'll get appointments quicker and I don't have to call a million times!

ETA: Assuming that I actually get one scheduled in time, has anyone had a SHG? Painful or anything I should know?

Me: 29, DH: 30

Married: April, 2011; TTC: July, 2012

Dx: MFI; June '14 IVF w/ ICSI: 11R, 8M, 5F... 1 5dt, beta #1: 213, beta #2: 621, beta #3: 8545!

  • Do you mean an HSG? If so, I did not find mine painful at all, but I know a few people on this board found theirs to be painful. I literally almost felt nothing. Good luck!
Me: 31 DH: 43 Married May 2010 TTC Since Jan 2013 Abnormally irregular and long cycles 35-60 days First RE Appointment Feb 2014 All basic tests normal March 2014: Clomid 50 mg - responded with one mature follicle

  • Its a bummer shes leaving, but like you said as least you know you can stay with her if need be.  If you mean the HSG you will get a million different answers to this questions.  I generally handle pain very well and my HSG hurt like hell!  I've heard the pain is directly related to the doctors skill level and i've heard it depends on if they use a balloon catheter.  I definitely believe it was the balloon catheter.  The good thing is it literally lasts all of 2 minutes.  I just bit my lip and breathed.  I knew if I wiggled or moved too much it would only make it last longer.  I had some cramping the rest of the night but a hot bath helped a lot.  Most women say they go back to work after, but i'm glad I didn't have to.  I don't want to scare you, I just want you to be prepared.
    Ba hahahaha!

  • I had an HSG and a SHG.  The SHG was not painful.  Uncomfortable, yes.  Painful, no.   The discomfort only lasted a minute or two.  Recommend taking some ibuprofen beforehand.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

  • I've had a HSG, SHG, and a hysteroscopy.  The SHG was by far the least painful.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • I haven't had an SHG. Although it sounds similar to an HSG. I had bad cramping the next day. I had mild cramping during the procedure. Nothing some rhythmic deep breaths couldn't help with. Also took Tylenol before hand (Advil is to strong for my stomach).

I did have my cervix dilated 5 days before the HSG. That hurt like nothing else! I was fine after but then the next day experienced horrible cramps. I cried.
