TTC after 35

Unsure what this means ...

Hi ladies ...
Not sure what to make of this, and forgive the question if it sounds lame. It's been almost 9 years since I was last pregnant.
My last AF was on 3/22. DH and did "the deed" A LOT this past month, especially during my fertile period of 3/29 - 4/5.
So I've been feeling pretty good. I have been having some mild cramping and my chest feels a little sore from within (not tender to the touch).
I just went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was blood. WTH could that mean? I'm just going to wait it out to see if it continues, and is possibly AF. I guess I'm just taken aback because I wasn't expecting it.
Anyone care to share their thoughts? And no, I haven't tested yet. I've been waiting until this weekend. Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you!! ;)

P.S. Why don't I get email notifications when someone replies to a post. I have my notifications set for that to happen. Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? Thanks again.

Re: Unsure what this means ...

  • Hi @TAT2MAMI,

I'm sorry, but I don't have advice about e-mail notifications. I find the site settings difficult to find in this interface.

Were you able to pinpoint your ovulation date with temping or OPKs? It is difficult to assume implantation bleeding if you do not know the ovulation day. Also, from what I understand, implantation bleeding is rare.

  • Loading the player...
  • I have not started temping and honestly, I don't know what OPK stands for. LoL
We just started TTC this month and wanted to see what would happen. According to an app I have on my phone, it says I should have ovulated on 3/30.

    I appreciate your response @URMySunshine77 :)

  • In that case, I would assume that it is AF. But if you think it has been 14 days since ovulation, then a HPT (home pregnancy test) should be accurate. You can find a lot of helpful TTC information and acronyms at this Web site: https://tbttgp.wordpress.com

An OPK is an ovulation predictor kit. You can test your urine to see if you are about to ovulate.

If you do believe that you have a BFP in the future, be sure to add a "BFP Warning" in the subject heading, just to give others a heads up.

  • Also, I would recommend temping to help you with hitting the fertile window. Most people use Fertility Friend, and it has a great app: https://www.fertilityfriend.com

I don't know about the email notification but  I can try the bleeding part.  If the bleeding is only when you wipe, it may be implantation bleeding although I believe only like 5% of women experience this.  Somewhat heavy is more likely to be AF.  The other symptoms you described can be early pregnancy, ovulation, or a sign AF is on the way, but you won't know until you test this weekend.  Hope this helped.  Good Luck!

I'm not sure either, without knowing for sure when you ovulated.  If you did ovulate on the 30th, you'd be on 17 dpo--definitely time to take an hpt! However, if your cycles are an average length, pre-period spotting unfortunately seems more likely than implantation bleeding (which is pretty rare, as pps point out.)

I also second the recommendation to look into charting/temping/opks, and a Fertility Friend (the basic version is free! ) account.  If your last AF started 3/22, an ovulation date of 3/30 seems a little off--ovulating on CD 9 is certainly possible, but I don't think very common.  If you did ovulate on 3/30, though, 3/29-4/5 would not have been the most effective time-frame for sex.  Since the egg only lives 12-24 hours after ovulation, sex in the days after you ovulate isn't very useful.

    Good luck!

  • As someone who had implantation bleeding in the past (and may be having it again today), I can sympathize.

My advice is to see how long it lasts. If it is lighter and shorter than your normal period, do a test soon. I mistook my last implantation bleed for a regular period (because it was just like a light one) and was shocked at my 18 week u/s to discover that I was a month off in my dates.

I was shocked to see blood an hour ago. AF isn't due until Monday; I am 10dpo today and have cramping and nausea. I will (im)patiently wait this out, and if it's a quick bleed, I will likely test on the weekend.

    Good luck!
  • @Davie813 - Thank you for your response and helpful information!

@northernkhaleesi - Wow! We are in the same situation! I was shocked when I saw blood too. It didn't seem normal to me. Blood was kinda mixed with a clear discharge. I still feel crampy. I went to the bathroom again and it looked more brownish mixed with a clear discharge.
I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. Best of luck to you!!!

  • 1. Dump your phone app - they are useless to see when you ovulate unless you temp and use OPKs. 2. Take the free tutorials on fertility friend.com and learn more about TTC 3. Read the stickie at the top of the page as it will help you as you post on this board Good luck!

  • -child mentioned-

I had implantation bleeding with DD. I agree with PPs that it's rare. I thought it was the beginning of my period, as I wasn't expecting a pregnancy. It's brownish and pinkish in color, rather than bright red. Take a test. If you have implantation & symptoms, you could have a measurable amount of hormone for HPT.

  • If you are truly having pregnancy symptoms, then you have more than enough hormones coursing through your body to turn a test positive. Take a test, I can't believe you haven't already. And if it turns out that bleeding is your period and this isn't your cycle, lesson learned - symptoms mean nothing, it's just crazy-inducing to read so much into everything you think might be a pregnancy sign.

  • So ....  it ended up being AF... I am never this early. I think that is why it caught me so off guard. I did do a test and it came back BFN.
I really did mind f*ck myself into thinking that I was having symptoms.. Lesson learned. ;)
    Better luck next time.

  • I'm sorry you got a BFN and AF. The mind can be a powerful thing and phantom symptoms are the pits. Good luck next round!
  • Hi especially since you are just starting to ttc you will be hyper aware of pms symptoms now. I've never been pregnant but I understand they are similar. And I have noticed that I have different symptoms on different cycles. Welcome to the game! :/

July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
