I got put on modified bed rest and I'm dying of boredom. I know we've got a few who are on bed rest. What do you guys do to pass the time? Plus, how do you keep your back from being so sore after sitting in bed/couch for so long?
I'm not on bed rest but I'm afraid I'm headed there. When I'm resting my swollen legs I like to watch/catch up on series on Netflix or On Demand, play on Pinterest, play Words with Friends, email with friends.
I am lying down most of the time but I change sides frequently and use pillows (Snoogle and body pillow) for support. I also have bedrest exercises to do that PT taught me in the hospital- mostly mild stretching and range of motion stuff. I use my minimal activity to go to the pool if possible- all I am allowed to do is float with a noodle but it feels REALLY good on my joints- and I do gentle stretching underwater too. During the day I read a lot (put books on hold at the library so H or my mom just returns one tote bag and picks up the next). I'm doing a blend of my favorite stuff and also trying new non fiction. I meal plan and make grocery lists. I rotate between my bed, the couch in the living room, an the futon in the nursery. In the nursery I "supervise" decorating and organizing- my mom is washing baby clothes and I can put them on hangers while lying down. I also have the supplies to make mobiles and will be able to cut out the card stock fr them while lying down. While sitting up I fold laundry that my H or mom have washed. Lastly, I've been doing continuing education modules. I don't get professional credit for most of them (I've already renewed my license this year and it's too soon for stuff to count towards the next licensure period) but I pick stuff that sounds interesting and figure I am keeping my mind active and learning. People have also sent me tons of tv and movie recommendations but I have never been a big tv person so I haven't done that yet. I know lots of people suggest picking a new series and watching from the beginning. Lastly, heating pads can be really helpful for aches and pains. I meant to ask my OB if I was allowed to get a prenatal massage but I forgot this week to ask her.
@curlylocks3 any good fiction recommendations? I'm always up for a new series (well once I whittle down the stack on my bedside table).
Do you like historical fiction? I hae always enjoyed Phillipa Gregory books and she recently came out with a new one ("The White Princess") about the mother of Henry VIII. It's a whole series so I have been rereading them. The latest book was overall good but a bit disappointing to me.
If you prefer more of thriller style books I enjoy Frederick Forsythe. It's a newer pickup for me (my dad enjoys them so I thought they were for old people) and I've been happy with them. They can be a bit intense at times but overall good. I just finished reading "Avenger" and "Cobra"- not a series per se but characters are the same- there are only mild references back to the earlier book so not a problem to read Cobra first. "The Odessa File" is also good.
I did read the adult JK Rowling book and was disappointed.
Mostly at the library I just wander around and pick what stands out to me. Lately I've been trying to just randomly search the library catalog, which is working ok.

lol, I'm reading The White Princess right now!
I'll look into Frederick Forsythe.
Let me know when you finish- I want to discuss the ending.
For tv series I like: The Good Wife and The Blacklist (it's only on season 1 right now though so it won't keep you occupied for long). I used to like Big Love and just thought of it the other day because my library has it all on DVD so I considered re watching it. You could also go old school and watch ER or something- that's keep you busy a while.
@lellymine if you enjoyed The Tudors, you may like Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett both the books and the mini series produced by starz. Books are waaaay better but you know... That's how it goes.
