Trying out Flips. Need a refresher course on inserts...

We've been using Freetimes exclusively for about a year.  Love them, but I've kind of ruined the covers since I throw them in the dryer all the time.  With #2 on the way, I've been considering switching to Flips to replace the diapers with worn covers.

I got a couple Flips covers during a recent sale, but hesitated when going to put them on DD.  We have several types of doublers/inserts I thought I could try them with: prefolds, bamboo inserts, and microfiber.  I feel like I remember reading that there are certain materials that shouldn't be right against babies bottom.  Is it just microfiber that I need to worry about?

I wanted to try the covers with what we already have on hand, but I may just buy some Flips inserts instead...

  • Yep anything you have besides MF can go next to the skin. The flip MF inserts are lined with suede cloth on the side that touches baby.

  • Not to thread jack, but still the same line of question. I've been useing a bamboo/microfiber blend insert from some pockets that I had. Is that bad? I generally put a kushies cotton liner on top( for easy poop disposal) does that make it ok?

I think as long as the liner fully covers the insert and doesn't bunch it should be ok. I wouldn't trust other caregivers to do it right.

  • every bamboo/mf insert I have is mf on the inside, and bamboo on the outside layers, so there is no chance of mf touching skin. again, thats the only type I have seen.
