TTC after 35

Newbie after a loss

Hi there,

I hope I'm doing this right! I don't want to offend anyone or get a message that I'm doing this all wrong. ;)

A little about myself and S.O. I'll be 35 in less than a month, I've been a type 1 diabetic for...a very long while. Over 20 years, and i have a thyroid condition on top of it. My S.O, will be 35 in June (I'm a cougar! ;). I have a 15 year old son from my first marriage, but my SO and i would like to have children together....and we aren't getting any younger.

We actually got pg in January, but by the first appointment at the end of February, we had miscarried. That was the second mc for me, as i had the first 8 years ago, however that was with my ex. So my doc wanted to do a sonohysterogram just to be safe and see what was going on in my uterus. At the 2 week re-check she found a fibroid and had said depending on where it is, we may have to do surgery to remove it, even though it's very small. Thankfully, at the sonohysterogram, everything came out fine!! The fibroid is in the wall, and my uterus is, to quote my doc, "very pretty". Haha!! So we got the green light to start trying again...which we are in my window, and we're giving it a good solid try!

You could say I'm a bit paranoid about pregnancy. Well maybe a repeat of what we just endured, not the pregnancy itself. The diabetes is really the big cause of that! My docs all say I'm fine and I've been cleared to get pregnant. But i know the older i get, the harder it's going to be. Even if i didn't have diabetes, it'd still be harder than when i was in my 20's, but add that complication, and my odds are even less! Then add the thyroid to it and now you can see why I'm a little concerned. My doc however says i get to be neurotic with the added complications and 2 losses. She says I'm allowed. Lol! She did say that clearly I'm fertile, it's just that for whatever reason, that pregnancy wasn't meant to be. So i try to take some comfort in that.

Anyway...so all that to say, I'm trying EVERYTHING i can to get and STAY pg this time around!! I'm more fertile now, after the loss than i was, according to my doc (she's a specialist in high risk and infertility btw), and I've stayed off things like alcohol and caffeine. It's just easier. I've been trying to eat for pregnancy, and skip the processed as much as i can. I've been on a prenatal since November/December, and I've gotten the SO to adopt some of those healthier practices as well. Hopefully, we'll know for certain and can celebrate the new little life we're growing. Fingers crossed!!

  • Welcome - you've come to a great place for support.

Sorry about your loss; it sounds like you're being very proactive. I hope you find success soon!
  • Thank you so much! I appreciate the warm welcome and support!!
  • A bit behind on the bump board so a belated welcome!
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
