This is quite interesting about whooping cough!

edited April 2014 in October 2014 Moms
Seems they have found that vaccinated individuals while showing a strong antibody response to the vaccine, when exposed to pertussis remain with the pertussis bacterium in their lungs for several weeks! They have been found to be spreading the pertussis to others during this period even though they have no signs of illness. They are saying that vaccinated people are able to spread pertussis to the unvaccinated and young infants etc! Pretty scary!

  • That's really interesting. I was vaccinated in the hospital the day after DS was born...I suppose that would have put him at risk?

One more thing to research and ask the doc about!

  • We pretty much kept DS at home for the first 2 months of his life, and limited visitors, etc., because he was born early and tiny and we were first-time paranoid parents. I suppose your strategy could be just to keep LO home for some time before exposing him/her to the world. :)

  • I got a TDAP last year so I will be good. Guess I need to get my husband to the doctor soon!

I am due 10-20 so I am already debating pretending we aren't home for Halloween. I am not sure I want a bunch of germy kids coming to my door all night!

  • This is only one study. I've seen numerous studies about people getting whopping cough even if the person vaccinated for it. For example, a study done in New Zealand showed that 65% of people who contacted whooping cough were vaccinated for it. https://www.ias.org.nz/press-releases/whooping-cough-ias-questions-moh-push-of-ineffective-vaccine/
There have also been doctors who were fully up to date on their vaccines who got whooping cough.

I'm not saying any vaccine is evil. My child is going to get all the vaccines they need. I do however like to know all about what is going to be injected into the body of my baby and how effective it really is. I recommend for any parent to do more research and to not just get their research from those making millions of dollars by promoting/selling vaccines.

Where did you hear that? There are companies that make billions off of vaccines every year. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-independent-are-vaccine-defenders/

I'm saying that 65% of people still getting whopping cough even though they get the vaccine makes it alot more ineffective than many might think. There are also studies showing that the whopping cough vaccine is causing the disease to mutate into something more deadly.

  • theresat858. This thread worries me. Like Theresa said, the vaccine doesn't cause the infection/spread of the bacteriumKingsDaughter76, would you please edit your initial post? It would be really tragic if anyone avoided vaccinating or would only hang around unvaccinated people because somebody read an article wrong.

  • It reminds me of chicken pox. They still can get the virus but it is so so so mild compared to what we got.
  • My point was that there is information out there about vaccines that many parents don't know. Many only look at information from those who make alot of money from vaccines. I'm all about researching all sides and taking everything into account. I have 3 friends who have vaccine injured children so I am more leery of vaccines. Like I said though, my child will get all the vaccines they need. I'm not anti vaccine. I do think it's good to question and research everything that concerns the health of my child and I will encourage others to do the same.

  • The best way to protect your baby from pertussis remains to become vaccinated yourself during the third trimester of pregnancy, because some of the immunity will be passed on to baby.  Anyone around your baby should still have received the pertussis vaccine within the past 5-10 years -- how recently does not actually matter.  Yes, they could have a silent infection - but this is less likely than a non-vaccinated person having an active infection that they call "allergies".
theresat858: Do you have any article links I could print to bring to her?  TIA!!!

  • My dr mentioned his office was vaccinating everyone for pertussis because of all the outbreaks. I said not me because I am allergic to pertussis! He said well I guess we will have to think of a different plan for you. All my 35 yrs I have had to tell doctors what I was allergic to and never was it an issue until now. I am lucky that DH and all 4 kids have been vaccinated with no reactions.
  • I feel like I need popcorn to read thru this thread

  • It's common for Tdap to cause some arm soreness.  Give it a week.

  • So I'm supposed to get my TDAP this monday at my 32 week appt. My folks and my MIL and my DH haven't gotten theirs yet - these are all the people who will have more constant contact with baby. Not asking my sister or BIL or SIL and other BIL to get it as seems overkill - but I'm confused now - should I be telling my DH, MIL and parents to get the TDAP asap, so six weeks can go by? Seems there is differing opinion on this and just want to be clear.
