I was also shocked that it happened so soon, but so glad it did!

Also, when Goffery cut the cake and the doves flew out, there was a dead dove left in the cake right? Presumably he killed it with his sword? DH thought it was icing, we watched the part several times, but couldn't tell for sure.

I haven't read the comments for fear of spoilers but we are just about to watch the first episode of the new season. In the past 3 weeks we've been binge watching from the start (we were both new to the series). The last couple of episodes of the last season were shockers. Excited for the new season!

Didn't read the books so I was surprised. I was actually surprised they did it so soon in the season too. Not sure I could loathe anyone as much as him. Going to be an interesting season for sure!!

Glad it happened. Maybe the poison killed the bird? Was it in the cake or the wine? I thought it was in the cake.

Oh I didn't even think about the cake! I assumed it was the wine but that's a good point about the dead bird. Maybe it was the cake after all. I also think the fool might have something to do with it.

I've read the books but hubs has not so I also enjoy watching his reactions. The Red Wedding was priceless (reaction wise)

@woodshopgirl no date set rumor has it estimated about winter of 2015. blah!

I think it was the cake. I think it was the grandma from the tyrell family for some reason (I forget her name?) She never says anything nice about him and didn't fake amusement at the wedding. Idk, that's my theory.

Ok we are all caught up! I'm so glad the king met his end. I agree and think it was the tyrells. I just hope Tyrian is ok. He's my fav.

Great episode! I was surprised but so happy it finally happened. I think it was the wine. The dead bird was from the sword cutting the cake (I think). My theory is that the fool did it, possibly with some influence from lady tyrell. I think something went down when Sansa picked up the cup and gave it to Tyrian. Poison in the cup? Who knows but I'm wicked excited for this season.

I wasn't surprised because I've read the books but I still thought it was really well done. I actually felt bad about it as much as I hated Joffery because of Cercie's reaction. They're both crazy, but he was still her son.

@nikkys2008 read them. worth it. doesn't ruin the tv show at all. If anything I'm more excited because I really love seeing how they portray some of the events.

The red wedding was much more dramatic on tv than when I read it. The show made me slow down and really savor? the entire scene. I blew through the book so it wasn't as intense.

I agree, totally worth the time invested. I am actually re-reading now because I feel like missed so much the first time through. Also, I seem to have completely forgotten the whole Dorne story line.

I just want to say YESSSSSSS for Joffrey dying but I kind of wanted it to last a little longer (the dying that is) because I hated him so much. Kind of scared for Tyrion now though... *bites nails* I'll admit, I haven't read the books.

Totally agree with you.  Plus, this is one of the few times that changes made from the books have enhanced the story.  They've done such a great job with the characters, too... there are some that I love and root for and some who I love to hate

Same! My H and I were saying that he's a character that we wouldn't mind see getting tortured slowly until he died.

I don't have cable But I have read the books so I know what's coming. It's going to be a doozy. My aunt and her wife just got caught up on the show. Their reactions to Red Wedding were so amazingly hilarious, I can only imagine their thoughts on Purple Wedding.

I don't think Lady Tyrell did it!  I don't think it could be any of the Lannisters either!  Both of those houses have too much to loose if they did that.  I'm thinking Sansa Stark.

So who will the throne fall to now?  Stannis Borathean?

ETA - I didn't read the books so I have no idea what's coming!

My DH read all the books so he always looks over at me right before something crazy happens with this all knowing smirk. I'm like, dude, don't ruin it for me lol! So excited about Joffrey though!

I've read the books, but haven't seen the show yet this season. DH and I are hoping to catch up tonight! I can't wait to see it all play out.

I'm only on the second book so far but I am so glad that nasty little prat is dead. I hated him the most, second is his mother even though I pity her at times. Ding dong the wicked one is dead. This season is going to be amazeballs!

I think this season she's going to be on her A game (acting wise).
