Re: Advice on newborn stash?

  • For OS, I think your stash looks great with your 5 pockets and 20 BB inserts (And holy covers Batman!  I'm a bit jealous.).

Your NB stash isn't too bad, but I think I'd get another 6-12 NB prefolds or some small flats. Or even a handful of NB AIOs. NBs, especially EBF NBs, poop all.the.time at first.  We literally went through 12-15 diapers a day.  So your 30 changes will be tight to get through EOD washing.  Plus the infant sized prefolds will probably be bulky the first 2-6 weeks.

The nice thing is you have the BBs (which will probably be the first OS diapers to fit) to fill in that awkward in between NB and OS time.   I'd probably get another 10 - 12 size small inserts.  A lot of people skip the medium inserts all together.  You can use the smalls in the two smallest rise settings and the larges on the two biggest rise settings (Just be sure they are all the way tucked in on that 2nd largest setting.)

Other than that, I'd get one more medium wetbag to alternate with your bummis wetbag for the diaper bag.  Unless you plan to SAH and not use the diaper bag much.  Then one is fine.  If you plan to send LO to DC and CD there, you'll eventually want 3-4 total med. wetbags.

  • I agree with CLLDLL. You need more prefolds. When we started cloth diapering I made my own diapers and I made 30-40 pockets. I changed his diaper so often that we went through 12 diapers on a good day. The OS diapers that I was given didn't fit my 8 lb baby until he was 3 months so you may not be able to use your OS diapers as a back up.

I dont' understand why you need a wetbag for the bathroom if you are have a pail. A diaper sprayer is not needed but is definitely handy with all of those poopy diapers.

I wouldn't worry too much about your small medium inserts for your BB diapers. It sounds like you have PLENTY of everything to last you for a while before you decide what you like and don't like.

  • I agree with @CLLDLL -- more prefolds, at least one more wetbag, and more small BB inserts (I'd go for a total of 12).  I'd skip the medium BB inserts.
    P.S. I like CJ's BUTTer for cd-safe cream.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I will order some more infant Prefolds and some small BB inserts, and another medium wetbag. I was thinking of a hanging wetbag in bathroom for after spraying them so I'm not carrying dripping wet diapers back to diaper pail....

I like that idea. A lot of ladies on here do that. Or have some sort of container they use to carry the shopping wet diaper back to the diaper pail.

FWIW I do agree that you don't *need* that or a sprayer until baby starts eating a good amount of solids. Maybe around 6-8 months depending on your pedi and your kid!
