Can you share a little about your experience, good and/or bad? Any complications? Did you deliver vaginally or have a cesarean? How long were you in labor? How did you feel after you got the pitocin?
Whenever I mention I am being induced, I get all of the unwanted "advice" and information that does nothing but make me feel like a bad mom for doing it. I know I always have the choice to say no, but I am not the expert like my doctor is. I am being induced this Friday due to high blood pressure and increased kidney levels.
Thanks ladies. Any info is helpful info.
Re: For those who have been induced....
630a I was at a 1, they broke my water and gave me an epidural. By 645a I was at a 4. Baby stressed and my heart rate dropped... Rushed in for an emergency c. Baby had cord wrapped 2x around neck and torso. Arrived at 7:02a
Even with all the labor it wasn't that bad.
I was induced after my water broke but I had not started to contract.
Woke up at 1:30am and thought the slight drip might be more than just urine. At 4am I had a pretty good idea it was. I was registered and taken in at the hospital at 7:30am, in the delivery room by 9, Pitocin started at 9:30am and little guy born at 3:30pm.
The contractions started almost right away for me and they came on hard and fast. Like really hard and fast. I wish I'd known more and not been pushed into the induction, I've always wondered if I would have started contracting on my own anyways. But I guess we'll never know.
Sounds like you have some very legitimate medical reasons to go with the induction. Like others have said, trust your doctor.
And good luck!!
I was induced with my son, Can't compare to a natural unmedicated birth because this is my second pregnancy and I've decided not to induce it this time so I'll tell you the difference within 3-4 weeks
I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow.
In regards my first pregnancy, I decided to accept the pitocin because the hospital was very far from home and I was 1 cm dilated already when I got to the hospital that night. They gave me the pitocin around 9pm, my mucus plug came out around midnight and my water broke right after. Didint feel strong contractions or pain until around 9am. I asked for epidural around 11am (huge mistake) I feel the urge to push around 12pm but then the epidural caused that I couldnt feel the contractions so i didnt know when to push anymore, thats why they had to performe an episiotomy. Baby was born at 12:29pm.
This time I'm planning on not taking the epidural and letting the labor go naturally without being induced. Let's see how that goes.
wish me luck and good luck to you

Induction can be a scary thought but once you're there and started, the fear melts away and you become excited about meeting your baby soon.
And don't let anyone make you feel bad. Good luck :-)

the whole experience was about 8 hours and I felt little but what I'd consider comparable to early natural signs of labor like PMS cramping. once things really got rolling I was at 3-4 cm & I hadn't felt much pain yet. once I did, I got the epidural & then my water broken. once I was past 5cm I was in more discomfort & went to 10 quickly. got another epidural bolis but had the baby in 20 minutes & was a bit numb after from not requesting the bolis earlier.
while it was longer than natural labor for me, I think overall it was very comparable.
I hear of many first inductions ending up in c section but I don't know why. mine was great so good luck!
My water broke before I was in active labor, so eventually (15 or so hours after water break) I had to go on Pitocin to get things moving along. I went on pit at 6am, and didn't really get much progress with contractions until later that afternoon - around dinner time. However, I still wasn't dilating.. Luckily, my doc didn't push a c/s. I was able to go off the pit for a while -take a shower, go for a longer walk (over an hour around and around) and by the time we got back into the room and back on Pitocin, things finally started picking up. The break was all my body needed to get going, and I was dilating and in transition in a couple hours. I think 6PM was when I took the break, back on about 8PM, and finally got the epidural at 10PM when I couldn't take it anymore lol. I'm hoping things happen on their own this time, but I was grateful my doc wasn't pushing me for a c/s when there was no progress and let me take a pit break! all in all, 36 hours from water break to birth, 18-20 hours on Pitocin (6am til birth at 2:30 AM with the break).
It's not unheard of for cytotec or cervadil to start labor without pitocin if your body is really ready and just needs a little push. I was in labor for a total of 7 hours and 40 minutes of pushing.
I hope if I have to be induced again to have a similar experience
