excesaive ear wax

DD has so much ear wax coming out of her ears. I have never seen so much. I thought she had an ear infection and dr had to scrap her ears out because he couldn't see. Next week we were right back there for the same thing. I hate paying my copay that I can't afford just for ear wax but I dont know what else to do about it. She seems instantly relieved once clears out.

Re: excesaive ear wax

  • I have a very waxy LO as well. Our doctor suggested using hydrogen peroxide on a regular basis. I put it in like ear drops, and have him lay for as long as he'll stay put so it can get in there. I try to do it once a week...but it's really probably more like every other week. The best part - hydrogen peroxide is super cheap.

  • We had to take DD to a pediatric ENT back I'm December to get her ears cleaned out because her ped couldn't get through it. The ENT said some kids are just really waxy and there's not much you can do. She recommended not using anything (peroxide or the wax removal drops) because little kids don't understand and it's hard to get them to cooperate. She recommended having the wax cleaned out every 6mo or so. We've only done it once & it wasn't cheap (almost $1,000 billed to insurance, about $80 in copays for us). I am trying peroxide but no idea if it's helping yet. We were also told that if wax continues to be a huge issue getting tubes may help.

  • So im not one to typically buy into the "as seen on tv" stuff but the ear wax vac works for us. It makes a faint noise that DD had to become accustomed to but for the most part it seems to be working well! we only use it once a week and use infant qtips each day to try and maintain. Granted its never been so bad in DD that we have had to professionaly get them cleaned out. SO for $10 at walmart there is an earvac option that we would recommend!
