Tangled hair

My LO has long curly hair. I comb it out each night (after bathtime) and every morning without fail, she has a serious knot in the back. As she gets older and more wiggly, it's getting harder for me to comb it out. Any BTDT mamas have any tangle free solutions to share?

Re: Tangled hair

  • I don't have a solution unfortunately but my DD gets like dread locks at the back of her head every time she wakes up. I find pulling out hairs from the knot one by one a lot easier then combing out the knots.. A lot more time consuming though. I slather coconut oil in the hair some days too just to try and avoid big clusters of tangles. It's not fun, I'm hoping her hair gets thicker soon so it's not always getting knotted.

  • Cute babies! I'm loving the long hair :) My baby is pretty much bald.
  • @Burrberrymum‌ yes! Little baby dreads are exactly what's going on here. I'll have to try the coconut oil. Thanks for the tip!
  • @JWeber1110‌ Btw, those curls she has are soooo adorable! Goodluck with the baby dreads, nap time is when I get the most of them out but it's just a cycle lol if I don't get them all out at once I'm basically screwed cause they'll merge into one big cluster.
  • We don't have that problem, thankfully. But best way to get out tangles is to use a de-tangler spray and start at the bottom. If you're combing from root to end then you're tightening the knots. I hope that makes sense.
  • @Burrberrymum‌ and @Brennadaun‌ this may be a stupid question, but do you put the coconut oil in when the hair is wet or dry? Are we talking totally slicked back hair, or just working the little dreads with the coco oil?
  • I wish he had enough hair to tangle.  Poor guy is going to be nearly bald for a long while.

  • @JWeber1110‌ I try and focus mainly on the little dreads but between the coconut oil melting everywhere and trying to hold her still if she's not sleeping her hair ends up pretty well covered.

I try to do it on days I know I'm not going out anywhere. I figure it's a good little scalp treatment too!
