Re: Getting Healthy Check-In

  • I can't really complain about this week. I lost .8 lbs.

Ate well most of the week but I did have Taco Bell and homemade pizza so I'm happy with almost a pound loss.

Weather is finally warming up so I am able to walk with the kids again. That should help with upping my activity.

Made a delicious avocado egg salad. With Easter coming up and boiled egg will be aplenty this is a great alternative to regular egg salad.

    1/2 an avocado
3 boiled eggs ( take the yolks out of 2)
1 teaspoon of mustard (I used spicy brown)
Season to taste with salt, pepper and garlic powder

Just mash the avocado first then add the eggs and chop it all together then add the mustard and seasoning. Easy peasy and soooooo good. I put it on a multigrain flat bread with baby greens and tomato. You could also just eat it on some lettuce.

Just started taking the B12 tabs. Haven't noticed any difference other than the lemon/lime Gatorade pee. I'm sure it's going to take a while to build up in my system

Hope everyone had a great week

  • That sounds like a fantastic recipe. This past week has been extremely difficult for me. Miraculously, I managed to lose the weight that I gained and then some, so I'm ecstatic and will hopefully use it to make this week a more productive weight loss week. I'm officially off birth control and I have heard that it can lead to weight loss, so I'm looking forward to that too (hopefully).

  • Lol @JimBobCooter it is .8 lbs not 8 lbs. I'm not on the biggest looser. Those are the only people who loose that much weight in a week.

I'm glad you have a good partner in TKW. I'm sure that will motivate you to go more.

@MamaBear904 woo hoo for being off BC. You are officially ttc now.
I'm glad you had a good week and I know you will do great this coming week.
I know I gained weight when I went on BC but I can't remember if I lost any when I stopped (it's been over 8 years since I took it)

@BeckyP005 I'm glad your cat joined our check-in.

  • I broke out because of my period and unfortunately fell into picking my face in a couple of spots again. I just can't leave well enough alone. Then I got in a tiff with DH yesterday because he noticed and kept saying, "That looks really bad. Just stop doing it at all" like it's simple.

I would use some topical treatment for my acne, but I am weirded out by using prescription meds when TTC.

On a positive note, I've been walking more and eating fewer desserts since my mom left. I don't need to lose weight, but I wish that I could do some toning classes. Unfortunately we don't have a gym with daycare in our area and I don't like to drive.

  • @hooligans4: nice work on losing almost a pound!

@MamaBear904: congratulations on losing weight and going off of BC. It sounds like an exciting time for you.

@JimBobCooter: a workout buddy is excellent. I'm happy that you had a good time.

@BeckyP005: tell your cat that I say hi and good job. ;-)

  • @URMySunshine77 you have been doing good with not picking right. So this is just one little set back. After AF and your face clears up don't pick for the rest of the month. Then when AF comes again (or not if you get a BFP) you will be less tempted to pick because you went the whole month before without doing it.
Also is there something natural you can use to reduce the breakouts. Might be something to look for.

As far as you wanting to tone you could pick up some light weights or kettle bells and a DVD you can do at home. No need to drive only to go buy them, and you can make DH drive you for that.

I know it's hard to break a habit you have been doing for a long time but if it affecting how you feel about yourself then it's worth the effort to try and make a change. But only do it for you, not anyone else.

  • @JimBobCooter are you keeping a food journal? That is the only way to know exactly how many calories you are eating. You would be surprised how many calories we eat without realizing. Even if you take one nite of something write it down. Every drink and the portions you are eating.

It could also be that you are building muscle but that won't make you gain every week if you are watching your calories.

It's frustrating, I know but stick with it if you really want to loose some weight

  • I hit 15,200 & 14,800 steps two days in a row last week. The other days I hit 10,000. I was down 4lbs on Saturday morning. Then it was a birthday spiral of badness...margaritas, steaks, cake, bread, chips. I haven't weighed yet.

This week is it though. I'm serious, the last two weeks have been stress-city and I'm finally through all of it. And now that my birthday is over, I have no excuses!

    @hooligans4 weight-loss is weight-loss. You go girl!
@BeckyP005 I'm proud of your cat!
@Mamabear904 Good job on that weight loss! Keep it up!
@JimBobCooter Sounds like an exercise filled week! Glad you found some support! No loss because you are prob gaining muscle from all the exercise.
@URMySunshine77 I hope you can find something that will clear up the spots so that picking won't be an issue. Perhaps it's time to delve further into WHY you do it? And shame on DH for suggesting to "just stop". There's way more to it than that, as we all know!

  • @JimBobCooter, it's great that you found a partner who can help you be accountable with your workouts and someone who can give you motivation and advice. I wish I had someone here like that. As for why you gained, without more information it is hard to tell. There are so many reasons why you may have gained. It could be because you are having more sodium than you realize and could be retaining water. It could be because you're gaining muscle. It could be nothing more than your body fighting you.

I was in this position last week. I gained 1.2 lbs last week and was suuuuuuper depressed the entire week. I still worked out, but did not have the same level of energy. I also didn't monitor my foods too much (just tried to be a bit mindful of my eating). I don't know if the days off did something to trick my body or what because this week I lost the 1.2 that I gained plus .4 more, so depending on how long you've been trying, it could be that your body just needs a break. Not sure. Just keep your head up, give yourself a day or two to be upset about it and then get right back at it.

  • Thank you for the support @hooligans4 and @soontobeshrader. I know that the problem isn't really acne but the compulsion to pick when stressed. I am going to try to divert my attention when I gravitate toward the mirror.

I appreciate all of the tips!

  • So far so good for me….motivation and will power is still going strong. Im down my first 2 pounds at this end of this last week and that makes me happy.

I even took a lunch cooler with me on my long day photographing a wedding so i wouldn't be tempted to eat off plan……cause honestly wedding food is usually carb loaded. Mashed potatoes or pasta some kind of sauce or gravy on what ever protein they are serving……so i was a good girl and packed low carb options….but the crazy thing….this wedding was totally low carb friendly. I had prime rib, salad with italian dressing and asparagus with no sauce just salt and pepper. It was a rare treat!

@hooligans4 that recipe sounds right up my alley! I love avocados!

@Beckyp005 I have fat kitties too! Its hard to put them on a diet when i have non fat kitties too though!

@URMySunshine put a rubber band around your wrist and snap yourself when you go to your bad habit!

@Soontobeshrader sounds like you are kicking butt!!! good job!

@mamabear904 I really believe sometimes our bodies do need a break…..sometimes when I'm not losing so well a cheat meal will kick my body into gear.

@Jimbobcooter I would love to do TKD it is so pricey around here though. I get hard on myself too and set high expectations. Its such a hard thing to navigate realistic expectations sometimes. Often when i fall off the wagon its cause of my way too high expectations.

  • @KirstenAlecia good job with the 2 lbs.

That was smart to bring food with you for your shoot.

For the leg cramps try drinking tonic water. The quinine in it helps with that. My mother keeps a bottle by her bed and drinks it at night.

    And 4lbs woooooo hoooooo.
You did awesome. You are 4lbs closer to your goal.

Happy birthday and don't stress about celebrating. We are aloud!!!!

Glad your stress is gone and you are able to focus on your health with a clear head.

@ewenner I think good journals are key. Do you think that everyone is doing well because the weather is finally getting nice for a lot of us?

  • Okay. So I've struggled a lot this year, and basically feel like I'm at rock bottom. My weight is the highest it has been in years, and I thought that coming off BC would help. I've gained 15lbs in the last year, even though I've been keeping a journal and working out. There is no medical reason - I had that checked recently too.

I've been taking a hard look at things this last week, and have decided that obviously I'm not trying hard enough. My elliptical machine is falling apart and there is no gym access here (there's only one gym and there are no available memberships). I need to go back to what worked last year and recommit. For the last week I've added cardio back in and am just being careful on the machine. Walking to and from work isn't enough. I will review my weight routines from back then and start one of them again. Enough is enough.

  • @northernkhaleesi you sound pretty motivated so that is a big step.
I can't tell you enough how much MyFitPal has helped me. The only thing is you have to enter everything you put in your mouth. It makes me make smarter food choices to stay in my calorie count.
I was almost the weight I was when I was 9 months pregnant with my son. So I understand your feelings. I am doing it and I never thought I could. I know you can do it too.

  • hooligans4 - I think the good weather may have something to do with it.  (Except for the fact that it snowed today where I am! Yikes!)  It's definitely easier to be more active when the suns stays up much longer.

  • Lol @KirstenAlecia my goal weight is what I weighed AFTER I had my daughter 17 years ago. I weighed 140 before I got pregnant the first time. I am realistic and know I will never weigh that again. So I will be more than happy with 160-165.

  • Hi Ladies! Well I finished my 11 day detox, its the Isegenix if anyone is interested. So I lost 8lbs and it was wonderful for my jeans to not be cutting me up, like when I bend over I don't hold my breath LOL. However the cleanse days sucked on the program.

I went for a walk Sunday morning and Monday morning. Today it snowed and was 30 degrees so that didn't happen - hopefully it will be warmer friday.

SO now I am trying to keep the 8 lbs off and keep moving down. Passover with DH family last monday was NOT helpful and Passover with my family on saturday and easter on Sunday....but I still doing shakes and meals from th eISegnix this week, decided to keep that up.

@KisrtenAlecia drink water before going to bed, I read that many cramps at night happen because its when your kidneys are in an optimum position to filter the fluids in yuor legs. So a glass of water helps.

@Hooligans thanks for the recipe sounds great!!! I got my first B12 shot today!!!

  • @Hooligans4 Im a very short short girl….4'10" to be exact so my goal weight is a pretty small number. Im 146 right now (and look like a little beach ball) and my gaol is to be 115 max. Thats at the high end of my ideal weight range. They say its 89-119lbs but for my frame I look sickly anything below 100lbs. My ideal would be 107 but i think i want to still enjoy life and food and honestly the thought of going back to even 115 scares the bejeezus out of me…..like it might trigger me back to that mind frame that i had in my 20s when i was plaques with an eating disorder. I want to be thin again but i want to be mentally healthy too. Its such a balancing act for me. I tell hubby and friends Im mentally healthier as a fat girl. lol.

I guess I just have to pray and rely on the love of God to keep me sane!

So for me today Im almost in tears. I got on the scale and that pound that crept on is still there. Im deeper into Ketosis (the color of the stick tells me) To me that tells me Im eating on plan PERFECTLY. I have turned my nose up at all kinds of goodies and things I love……I have will power of steel right now. That in itself feels AH-MAZING….but to see no changes in the scale is upsetting me. In the early days of starting a diet I usually see the scale move good and fairly fast…..then i have to start relying on the way my clothes fit.  So needless to say Im having a yuck day.

This is the sort of thing that makes me fall off the wagon usually. My head thinks "Im not losing anyway so why not have that _______. (fill in the blank for whatever tempting thing is in my face)(

    So so so frustrated.

Im so glad to have a place in here to whine and you ladies are so wonderful. I love reading everyones posts and seeing you guys either do really great or see that others can relate. I hope those of us finding difficulties get some results soon!

I do understand that totally. I am a head case when it comes to this…….its some old bad habits that linger is all. I really honestly can't help it….. :(

On a good note (that totally feeds my obsession sadly) That pesky pound that crept back on left and took a friend with it. Down 3 pounds and that puts me back on track to lose my 1.75 pound a week goal. If I keep it up I will be at goal in August.

Woohoo 29 more pounds to go….its a long road ahead!
