Pregnant after IF

At what point during the process have you gotten emotional?

Obviously the IF road is rocky and emotional. However, I am wondering once you got your bfp, when have you gotten emotional? What brought it out? In a positive or negative way...

Please share your experiences:

Re: At what point during the process have you gotten emotional?

  • I ask because I am surprised by my reaction. I usually wear my emotions on my sleeve.  When we got the first positive beta I was completely surprised and excited and cried a little with my mom. However after the first few hours, I became so cautious and even stoic when discussing the pregnancy with people.

Even once my husband and I saw the beating heart, I didn't cry. I was pleased but not crazy emotional.  It wasn't until I was leaving the RE's office and thanking the nurses that I finally started tearing up. Then finally, yesterday, when I was home alone and looking through old baby toys, I had a good emotional cry. I guess I needed to be alone....

  • I'd say not until I had my IF miracle in my arms. It was all we wanted for so many years, it took until I held her for all my emotions to come out. But, I'm not typically an emotional person.

  • I cried little when we got our BFP, I then cried a lot when we heard the heartbeat for the first time.  I still get a little teary every time we hear the heartbeat but not ultrasounds, it's weird.  I also got emotional when our crib was delivered, DH was like WTF?!?! hahaha

  • DH and I were very nervous (but hopeful) as our positive beta results came in. It took us multiple IVF attempts to get our BFP, so I think we were still in shock at that point.

It wasn't until the first U/S, and seeing the heartbeats that we both got emotional. Reality definitely set in, and the tears wouldn't stop. Such a special moment.

  • I let out a couple tears when we got our BFP.  Like thosethreewords I was feeling somewhat detached for a while.  At 32 weeks I still don't feel like it's real but friends who didn't deal with IF have told me it felt surreal for them too.  It's a big change.  Now I get teary eyed when I see a birth video or think about actually giving birth.  But I haven't had a big emotional reaction yet.

  • Thanks for all your responses. They makes me feel like my reaction is a little more normal.
FutureMrsW9 I also felt more connected to the heart beat too.

  • I teared up when we saw the positive pregnancy test. I haven't cried at any of the ultrasounds, though. It still doesn't seem real to me (like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop), so I think I might be keeping myself distanced. I did get teary reading a pregnancy book with mothers recalling when they got to meet their babies for the first time. Without a doubt, I will be bawling when that moment comes.
