Formula dummy

First off, supplementing sucks! It's so confusing and takes so much longer to figure out and prepare his bottles.

Anyways in my tired state this week I totally messed up the proportions. It should be one scoop for each ounce, easy enough right? Nope I somehow started doing 1 scoop for every 4 ounces. He only gets 1 ounce of formula a bottle and it hasn't even been a full week so I'm hoping he will be ok. I feel awful. Anyone else ever mess up like this?

Edit:
Wow I must be tired I meant to say it should be 1 scoop for every 2 ounces.

It would depend how much you are supplementing each day, but since water can be given at this age I'd think you'd be fine (in younger babies it would be problematic). If you are supplementing with several bottles a day I'd call the ped, but less than that I wouldn't worry about it if there aren't reasons to worry (upset tummy, etc.).

  • I've not done this but I supplement as well & YES it's confusing! I now send an extra back up bottle to DC because some days she wants more & some days not. I'm also always wasting it because I'm worried after nursing she could still be hungry but nope she's fine. My supply sucks so I'm always worried. I'm sure your guy is fine and you won't make that mistake ever again now :)

  • I EBF then EFF since LO was 2 weeks old. It's 1 scoop for every 2 oz of water at least for Similac. The directions are on the formula container, be careful.

Also to add, Avent has a 3 section little blue container that you can put the bottle amount aside ahead of time and pour water into bottle ahead of time as well. Ie a 6 oz bottle is 3 scoops. Id look into this so you don't do that again

    Edit: you aren't a dummy.

I found one at Walmart yesterday and got one. This should help prevent any more tired screw ups!

  • You could also pre-mix the amount he usually drinks a day (or a bit less to avoid waste) and pour the desired amount from the mixed formula. Formula prepared with water can be kept in the fridge for 24 hours (once it is in a bottle and drink from it should be tossed in an hour).
