Carter's Sizing - Mom Fail

Well, no wonder so many of DS's Carter's clothes went to waste--I never paid attention to the size chart! ">  I just realized tonight that their single-month sizes are meant to go up to the month number, not start there. In other words, their 3 (8-12.5 lbs) is everyone else's 0-3, their 6 is everyone else's 3-6, and so on.

So if you're as clueless as I was, you might want to go back and double-check how you've organized and stored things. I'm finding out that I have a lot more clothes in the NB to 3-month weight range than I orginally thought. I'm glad I figured it out before we wasted her clothes too!

@mmurillo05 YVW. I thought I was short on NB and 0-3, but I just dug through my 3-6 mo tubs and found several sleepers and a whole pile of outfits.

Geez most of my stuff is Carter's and I thought the other random brands I got were just big. I really thought the NB onesies looked TINY. Now I know!

I thought the same thing when DS was little! I couldn't figure out why they'd size their clothes so they only fit for a week or two. Duhhhhhhhhh. LOL

I didn't know this either! I've been holding them up to other brands wondering. It makes more sense now. My only thing is after doing baby laundry newborn Carter's looks microscopic! I'm worried the newborn stuff is too small! (I'm a ftm so my sizing of a newborn could be skewed..)

Here's the size chart. Note that this applies to Carter's (and spin-off brands such as Just One You and Precious Firsts) single-month sizes only. Their Child of Mine line at Walmart is sized like other brands, in broad ranges rather than singles.

You might be surprised.  My 8lb 4 oz kid still fit in Carter's NB for a couple of weeks.



I hope so. I had a mild panic attack thinking I shrank everything!

Yep my daughter was 7lb 15oz and wore NB for about a month.

That's funny you said that. I was just in Carter's yesterday. I was telling my DH not to look at any newborn stuff(which I don't plan on buying at any store). I don't plan to buy any newborn since they are often up to 8lbs and 21 inches. Chances are my baby will be bigger than that when he is born. If not, we'll grab a couple things at the store.

I have noticed that some stores do 0-3 and some have just 3months. It's really silly that they all don't label the same way in case we don't lion want better.

Well the age size numbers on the tag don't really mean much. The measurements associated with the sizes are way more telling.

Ya I was puzzled when I first started shopping. I still get mixed up sometimes because I see the 3 on the hanger and want to put it with the 3-6

Can I ask a dumb question? Are you referring to clothes from the store Carter's or the Carter's that Walmart sells? I'm assuming it's Carters the store.

@lauralou3x3 the walmart carter's line ("Child of Mine") does the standard 0-3, 3-6, etc. sizing. all other carter's lines (from the store, target's "just one you," etc) are NB, 3, 6, 9, etc.

@MrsT2008‌ exactly, but some people don't realize the difference and it can be confusing. One says 3months and others say 0-3 and that really makes you wonder. I had a friend that didn't realize that the height and weight was in the back if the tag.

Huh. Good to know. I always just thought they ran small. I just went there and bought some 3T shirts for my fairly petite almost 2yr old bc I wanted them to last.

DS was 9 lbs 3oz and wore nb for a week or two. The "months" guideline is ridiculous for us. He was in 9 month stuff by 3 months. But that was true of all brands. Nb is different than 3 month/0-3 month clothes.

Balls. I washed and sorted everything - if it said 3 months, it went to the 3-6 month pile. I guess more sorting is needed

@florassecret Yep, re-sort it! I did that the night I discovered my mistake, and I doubled my stash of first clothes.

Wow I totally was wondering that today! I assumed that the 3 month stuff would fit her in August- Guess I was wrong! (Happily, they're really cute)
