NCDR: Suck pad material for carrier?

I have just come across an issue with DS2 and my Manduca (like an Ergo) that I never had with DS1.  He likes to suck and gum the straps.  I can order a pair made for Manduca's for about $30 with shipping but I'd like to think I could make some for less than that.
What material would you recommend using? Flannelette? He was in the carrier for 20 minutes today and one of the straps was soaked.

  • The ones I saw for my Beco were terry cloth, I believe. I think I'd probably top that with some kind of cotton, though. Terry and flannel seem to me like they'd leave a lot of lint in the mouth.

  • Yeah, that was part of my concern. I thought maybe if I washed and dried it a bunch before making them then they'd be done giving off lint.

  • I've got some waffle weave cotton leftover from my unpaper towels project, so I will probably use that.
  • I'm planning on making some soon using some scraps of flannel (or maybe an upcycled dish cloth) topped by a cute cotton print. I'm also thinking about backing them with PUL or fleece.

  • Omg, Jo loves grabbing the baby legs as I'm sorting through laundry and sucking on them. Plus she starts to slowly sneak back with a pair like you won't notice they are missing.

  • Hmm, lots of good ideas. I am going to have to try a couple options I think to see what will work best for him.
