Just had my WTF consult and my RE is PISSED...

So I knew I would be having my WTF convo soon, but was expecting it on Monday. Well I just got off the phone with RE who seemed to be more upset about the fail than me.

In 3 yrs and 4 transfers I dont think Ive ever heard him sound so aggressive in tone. He was very sympathetic and apologetic for the first half of the conversation. And I think he was disappointed with himself, since for the first time HE actually preformed my transfer this past time. (as if he may have thought the other doctors where doing it wrong before, lol)

After all the apologies and I really thought this would work this time part... he starts with the list.

1) Recurrent Loss Panel

2) A second HSG (I had my tubes removed, but he thinks maybe there could be something residual thats causing problems)

3) Put me in a Endometrial study, where part of my endometrium will be biopsied and tested?? (I really dont know all the details of what this is or why), but based on the results apparently their could be additional things to improve the process.

4) A repeat saline sono

5) A special diet, which we will discuss in detail later. Nothing too drastic but he wants to make sure Im at least eating "these" certain things, and staying away from "these" things

6) Proceed with another 2 embryo transfer, that HE wants to perform himself.

I really feel good about this. My doctor for what its worth is a lot like Ben Stein... very nice, mild mannered, very detailed, but a little dry and monotone. And to hear expression in his voice over the phone was like "who the hell is this and where is my doctor"

He did say that we should be able to have a transfer in a couple months, which was a little disappointing, since I was just getting excited about doing a transfer next month. But hey, this sounds good to me overall. I had myself all prepared to go all "boss chick" on him during our talk, but he beat me to it. The only things I was going to ask about was the RLP and a endometrial scrape.

I'm disappointed you are having to wait, but the planned tests and treatments all sound very good to me. Please tell us more about the diet stuff when you find out the details! I'm very curious.

I know we don't have the same RE, but you have described mine almost perfectly! My husband and I have compared him to Ben Stein, too, because of the dry and monotone voice.

Glad he has other things he wants to try. I just had my 4th transfer so I know how you feel. My RE also recommended the endo biopsy thing- not just a regular one but the one he does is through Yale its called EFT. I had a regular endo biopsy in the past but the EFT is more in depth. If this transfer doesn't work I will do the EFT for more information. What about immune testing? I had mine before this IVF an something showed up.

How many more do you have frozen?

I hate that it failed but loved that he got balls to wall about the new plan. That always gets me pumped and ready to go! I am also definitely interested about that whole diet please keep us posted on that.

Immune testing is controversial. Some REs do not believe in it. My former RE did not. Since we are unexplained and had no explanation as to why nothing was working I wanted more tests. It tests for many things including thrombophilias, Natural Killer Cells, and DQ alpha match.

If something turns up your RE can put you on appropriate meds. Since DH and I have a partial DQ alpha match then I have been taking Prednisone since starting this IVF. I also had an intralipid infusion last week. Those 2 things are used to treat the match problem.

I go to SIRM in NYC and they o some immune testing. There are reproductive immuniologists who even do more in depth testing.

I'm sorry that it didn't work, but I'm glad your RE is so passionate about your case. I'm very impressed in him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed with you. Can you tell us how everything goes? And this special diet?

I'm sorry you have to wait, but it sounds like he's got a great plan ready for you. I hope it leads to something that will help with the next transfer.

One thing the whole IF and IVF train has taught me, is to chill through the ride. I'm glad you have a new plan, even though the waiting sucks. Hopefully all goes well!
