Suggestions on baby proofing?

Need advice/ideas. LO isn't walking yet, but I need advice on how to block a hole at the top side of my stairwell. I plan on putting a gate at her bedroom door but also want to do the stairs in case she gets out somehow (reading the climbing thread has me nervous now).

I'm on mobile, so these may be sideways. It's literally a hole between the stairs and the rail on one side of my stairwell.

There is a netting device that can be fitted for this. I think they use it more for balconies.

No real answer but when looking at the second picture and not being able to tell what the actual height is but  could your LO go over the top of the railing where it starts to swoop down. Not trying to worry you just something to think about.

This....I would make sure something covers all the way to that door so youre LO doesn't climb over.

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Personally, I'd be tempted to have contractors put a nice half wall in going all the way across from the top of the post to the existing wall. They could cap the dry wall with a nice white ledge.

Lots of good ideas! After talking with DH we are going to get a half wall put up in the space, and some netting in the meantime until we can get someone to do it... There are other issues with the stairs (second to top one is both taller and narrower than all the others) that we didnt notice before we bought the house. I have no idea how that passed code but it is an older home, fun stuff...
