Parenting after a Loss

Exersaucer/walkers

What age did you put your baby in these? Zaiden will be 4 months on Sunday and about a week ago I put him in one for the first time.  He can't walk around in it, but he can push himself backwards and LOVES it! I've heard mixed feelings about babies using these too young. Like it can delay crawling and walking etc.  I plan to talk with his doctor next week at his 4 month appt, but was wondering what your thoughts on it are? TIA :) ETA: @km_md  I believe you studied child development, (sorry if I'm wrong) what are your thoughts?

  • We got a baby Einstein exersaucer for Tate to keep him off the back of his head and encourage him to hold his head up better. Also starting to realize he can push up with feet. We started at 4 months, and as long as the baby's feet touch the ground, that age is ok. My guy is still quite wobbly at 4.5 months, so I watch him.

  • @Michbot12 We pack blankets around him, too. He is just so happy in there, he isn't a big fan of tummy time or laying on the floor in general, so this gives him a break from that, and us a break from holding him. I can actually get things done without wearing him :)

  • Thanks @Wifey. I made sure his feet can completely touch the ground. Zaiden isn't a fan of tummy time, so we don't get a lot of practice at once.  I thought this was a good way for him to strengthen his neck, too.

We were slow to do Tummy time, and he HATES it. I try to make it pleasant for him because he needs it so badly. He has a pretty bad flat spot and is weak to push up because he is too busy melting down. I try other ways to strengthen him every day, but I fear he may be a little too wobbly for his age. Working on it!

  • i didn't have a walker for DS, but i did have the baby einstein bunjee thingy (like an exersaucer but suspended from poles with springs instead of on top of a saucer).  i started putting him in it at 5ish months.  he didn't start crawling till 8m and actually wasn't even sitting up on his own till 7m, but even that is still within the "normal" range, and he started trying to walk before he was a year and was walking everywhere by 13m.  i wouldn't worry about it.  i think what i read is that as long as you don't keep them in there too much and stop using it once they can walk on their own, it should be fine.  i left it up after he started walking because he still played with the toys from the outside.

Yes, this is exactly what I bought. So far we are happy with it, but it does encourage the worst poopy dipes when it all is forced up his back. #-o

I pulled him out yesterday after I thought he was done because if I change him too quickly, he does the soft serve when I pull off the dipe. He is in the 2's, but put a leftover newborn on him so he did not pee on me on the way to the tub. Looked like bikini bottoms on my chunky guy ;))

We had a jumperoo, I think we started putting him in it at 5 months. It does cause crazy blow outs though. Our fabric seat was removable and washable and I always had a blanket down below...just in case!

  • M was right at 6 months, 4 months adjusted. She liked it, but we had to work up to spending more than 5 minutes in it. Now she will happily spend a half hour playing in it twice a day. She loves it. She also hates tummy time, so this was a great way to get her up off her big giant noggin. It really helped with her flattening. We still have to use blankets to wedge her in properly. She is such a little peanut.

Good memory linzeeh!! I'm taking psychology but have focused on child psychology so I have taken some development courses.

I think that the main reason why they say that it can delay other development is when parents use them as a babysitter and baby sits in there for long periods of time. As long as he can hold his head up well enough on his own and is in there for short, supervised periods, I don't think it is a problem.

Thanks @km_md‌ ! I only leave him in there for 10/15 minutes at a time and of coarse always supervised! :) he has a pretty sturdy noggin, too, especially for the lack of tummy time. I can't get him to do it for more than a few minutes at a time because he cries.
