Trouble TTC

2nd opinion appt. made!

Well, 6 months in with my first RE, and I'm just not feeling hopeful.  I feel like I need answers, or at least a fresh take on what may be the problem.  2 weeks ago I was so hopeful with my 3 follies and DH's great count/motility...but any symptoms I thought I had have diminished, and i'm not feeling so positive anymore.

To anyone who has gone for a 2nd opinion, are there any suggestions you have for questions I should ask?  My current RE basically doesn't talk to me...about anything besides a "here's your plan, see you then", so I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a real opinion on my numbers.

If this cycle is a bust, AF should be here by Monday, and my appointment is Tuesday afternoon.  Wish me luck!!

Re: 2nd opinion appt. made!

  • I don't know about specific questions to ask when going for a second opinion...I think it would depend on your history with the previous RE, what your concerns were, etc.  But when I switched and went to my now current RE, I was straight forward with the problems I had with my previous RE.  I said it in a nice way, of course...but just want to be sure he was aware of the needs I had that weren't being met.  So maybe a list of concerns you've had, questions you never felt were answered, any new considerations this RE would have that maybe hadn't been explored, etc.

  • Thanks so much @gsancho.  I do actually want to make it a point that communication is a huge issue with the RE I'm seeing now.  He doesn't really say much to me at all.  I try to ask questions, and he does answer them, but it's just all business it seems.

  • Sorry about your current RE, I wish doctors realized that we spend countless hours analyzing on our own and on the internet, and a few minutes of their time to give us individualized feedback is like gold!

I agree with PP, to let your new RE know that it's very important to you to be fully informed of the thought process behind all his/her decisions in order to feel comfortable, if that is the issue, or that you want a very clear picture of the long-term options and direction, etc.

Good luck, I hope your new RE brings fresh eyes and ideas and is just what you need!!

  • Thanks so much @Hoping4LO -- I did call my current RE's office and have to send in a written request for my records tomorrow morning.  I will be picking that up before my appointment!

BunnyBerry -- you are so right!  I do believe he knows what hes doing...but he doesn't help me to understand anything.

In my opinion, after 8 months of seeing him, I feel I deserve a little re-evaluation or assessment to discuss why past treatments and meds haven't worked.

The other ladies seems to have given you some great advice. I would definitely be sure to ask about when he could see you if you switched. I thought about switching but none of the other REs have seemed willing to work with my schedule the way my current RE does.
