Constipation/Gas Pain - Relief?

Hi ladies! I wouldn't say I'm actually constipated, but my bm pattern has definitely shifted. I used to be a 2-3 a day'er, but now I'm lucky if I get 1 and it's usually a small bm.

My real complaint is the gas. It's all trapped in there & is making me miserable. It wakes me up in the middle of the night & if I get comfy I hate to move because it's gonna shift my gas around.

Any recommendations??

I know colace is fine, is it more of a softener or laxative?

Also prunes/juice. Do raisins work too?

Re: Constipation/Gas Pain - Relief?

  • HIiiiiiiiiiiiiii :D

My MFM has a concoction that she tells her ladies to use. You boil dried apricots and prunes and then blend it to make a jam or jelly. Eat it with a spoon or put it on toast.

I tried it a couple of times last year and it really helped.
  • I'm having the same problem (sooo bloated and painfully gassy), so I'm peeking in to see what others recommend.

  • I've had the same problem and it is no fun at all. I started eating cereal with high fiber in the morning and that appears to work a bit. Think along the lines of bran types of cereals etc.
  • I had the same problem!  I went to my OB for relief.  He prescribed Colace and it really helps.  It's not a laxative, but a softener that draws water you drink/eat into your system so it's easier to go.  I've also been eating prunes and TRYING to drink a lot of water!  Water is key!  I think a big part of my problem is not drinking enough, but I am making a huge effort to do better  :)

I was having a lot of trouble, and due to my bleeding and not wanting me to strain, my doctor's office suggested Colace.  It is a softener but has definitely increased the frequency for me.

  • Dried fruits like apricots and plums (prunes) work wonders. Make sure you are getting enough fiber and lots of leafy vegetables.  Drink water, lots of water to keep things moving and try to get in some exercise--even just walking can make a big difference.

  • My friend recommended glycerin suppositories for the constipation, but I have yet to try them... she says it works within minutes and just helps "lube it up" (gross, I know, but spells relief heheh)

As for gas pain, this might sound strange, but moving side to side/ on your back to on your belly gets the gas out quick (or it does for me anyways heheh); bringing your knees to your chest and rocking around helps too.

  • I had a horrible time with this when I was pregnant with my daughter. It seemed like nothing helped. Finally, I went to Miralax and it was a lifesaver. Doctor said it was very safe. Be careful not to let yourself get too constipated.

This pregnancy I have been able to manage with prune juice. It tastes horrible, but it works.

Good luck! There's nothing worse than poop issues.
