DD is 5 month 1 week today. She's been consistently eating 19-21 oz per day (plus 2 nursing sessions at night) for a month. Suddenly this week she jumped to 26 oz plus 2 nursing a day. So I'm wondering if there is growth spurt at 5mo or if she is getting ready for solids. We were planning on starting with some solids at 6 mo but if she is ready I guess we could start little early and try some next week. I know she's been chewing everything in sight lately but I have not seen any trace of teeth yet. Did any LOs have growth spurt or increased appetite around 5mo?
Re: 5mo growth spurt or time for solids?
Looking forward to any advice!
thanks!
If your LO shows signs of readiness as listed by @Finnaroo then you can start if your pedi approves. But babies should still be getting the vast majority of their calories from BM or formula. As I recall they should still be consuming 26 ounces of milk a day up until their first birthday.
It's recommended that your baby finish a bottle or BF session first and then offer solids.
@sing2phins: I am pumping and nursing. but she only likes to nurse once a day. currently i pump every 3 to 3.5 hrs but I think I will try to add an extra pumping session by pumping every 2 to 2.5 hrs and see if that will help. But so far, today is day 3 of her growth spurt and she is still going strong with gulping down milk. I do have some freezer stash but I don't like to use that since that doesn't help to increase my milk production.
thank you ladies
