pain in my right groin

So a few days ago I was wondering if maybe I pulled my groin on my right side and then trying to sleep last night was horrible. Any time I had to get up to go to the bathroom, or change positions, I got this sharp pain in my right groin that caused me to cry out and whimper. I had an appointment today and brought it up with my midwife who showed me some stretches I could do including lying on my side on the edge of the bed and dangling one leg over the other with my shoulders and back off of the bed (meaning I needed to be completely on my side). Hold this position for 5 breaths and then move to the other side of the bed and do the same thing on the opposite side.

I'm also alternating heat and cold, and the more I move around the less painful it gets. Sitting still for too long (or sleeping, apparently) makes it worse.

I just wanted to share in case any other ladies were experiencing something like this! So far heat and cold works for relief, and moving around (walking, standing, moving hips from side to side).

Re: pain in my right groin

  • Is it round ligament pain? I didn't have any for a while but it came back over the weekend, especially on the left side, and has been really annoying.

  • I have this also. I was told it was mainly because little girl is pushed against that side.

Not sure. My MW did mention the uterus stretching and ligaments but she never used the phrase round ligament pain.

  • I'm going through the same thing. Unfortunately nothing seems to help it and my OB said sadly there's not much I can do at this point

  • Thanks for the tip!

I have this on my left side and honestly thought I just overdid it in kickboxing. It felt really different than RLP, so I didn't think it was really baby related!
  • I have the same pain. Thanks for the advice!
  • Just be careful! My last pregnancy I had what I though was a pulled groin and it turned out to be a femoral artery blood clot! If it gets to where it hurts to move your leg at all and you have trouble walking I would have that checked.

Yeah --  my midwife asked if I had a history of blood clots or blood clots in my family. I do not. Since doing the stretches and using heat/cold applications, the pain has gotten much more manageable.

I pulled my left groin/RL at work back in February and it basically led to SPD so yes all the above you listed I have only mine in concentrated on the left and center. Basically my OB shrugged and said nothing to do except stay off it as they can't do any X-rays or MRI. Basically it grounded me from working out except gentle yoga and swimming and I actually lost a lot of hours at work as I couldn't so my job anymore and it didn't qualify under workers comp. I can't stand or walk for long without horrible pain and contractions. Things that have helped: gentle stretching, hot/cold, getting in and out of bed with both feet and being careful turning over, sitting on my yoga ball, staying off it. Te webster technique I am doing for
My breech baby is also helping with it as it has trigger point massage on the round ligament (painful as hell but works)
