  • My Mom & Step-Dad are Gramz & Gramps.
Dad & Stepmom are Papa & Nanny.
    My MIL will be Granny.

  • My Dad has asked to be called Poppa Doc. IL's are Mammaw and Pappaw, although MIL hates being called Mammaw by her other 4 GC (it accidentally got started and got stuck), so we may try to teach our LO her wishes to be called Nana despite his/her cousins calling her Mammaw.

  • My parents are Nana and Papa.  I had always called my Mom's parents that too, so to differentiate, my grandparents became Nana<lastname> Papa<lastname>.  When DD7 began talking, she would always mispronounce their names to Nana Bo and Papa Bo and it has stuck ever since.

DH only has his mom and grandma and they go by Granny <lastname>, but we don't see them much.

Both sides are Grandma and Grandpa Last Name. We are boring.

Not boring! That's what I had growing up, too :)

Having same issue. My LO will be my parents' first grand child. Well, I have a "bonus sister" (a chick that was our neighbor that spent more time with us than the grandparents she lived with, thus calling my mom her's, too). She has 2 kids that call my mom Ney Ney, I just can't stand it! So my kid will call her something else. But what? Then there's the issue that I have my mom, dad, step mom, & step dad, to name. My MIL is called "Mama Pat" by BIL's kids, which is cool with me. I call my grandparents Maw-Maw, Paw-Paw, & Grandmother, and my former step-dad/childhood father figure whom I call Pops, which kinda rules those out because it was super annoying when I always had to clarify with my mother "my maw-maw or your maw-maw?"
I'm at a total loss. I think I'll let the grandparents decide but maintain the power of veto.
  • My parents chose Grammy and Pop when my niece was born....and my MIL is Grandma.  I had Nanny and Poppy and Grandma and Grandpa.

They will be Grandma & Grandpa LastName on both sides.

I mean, to each their own, but I really loathe the cutesy grandparent names. Sorry, um ... everyone who posted above me.
AGREE 1000%. I have no idea when/where this started but I don't get it and I find it super annoying. My son's grandparents are grandma and grandpa. Just like mine were.

    --------------dafuq, quotes? -----------

I sort of agree, I guess. I mean, if the grandparents really want to be called something, that's fine. But no, kids don't pick. Kids pronounce what they can as they can. The reason they say things like "mammaw" or Papaw" or whatever is because they're trying to say Grandpa and Grandpa.

Why would you not just keep saying it the right way until they get it? I mean, my nephew is 2 and says grandma and grandpa just fine. It's not like they remember anything from before then, anyway.

Why do grandparents get to pick what they are called? Did I miss something?
