Cloth Diapering

Bleach and used diapers

I bought two used fitted diapers to try at a second hand children's clothing store. I washed them with a regular load of whites and followed the reccomended bleach use for clothing. It was a full load of whites, plus only the two diapers. Did two rinses. Do you think this is enough for the diapers to be safe to use? Want to make sure they're clean of any yeast or anything like that. They still have a slight bleach smell. Is this ok? Thanks for any advice!

Re: Bleach and used diapers

  • Around here they recommend 1/4 cup bleach for a full load so you are probably okay. And no, they shouldn't still smell like bleach. Rinse, rinse, rinse (in hot if possible)!! It could take several to get the bleach out.

  • You are supposed to use less with diapers.  For a full load of diapers it is 1/4 cup.  Like PP said, keep rinsing until they no longer smell like bleach.
