Where'd your water break?

I just read somewhere the other day that only 10% of women's water breaks on its own sending them into labor...I was shocked by this but I guess it isn't too often that you hear of labor STARTING that way. I was lucky to have that be the case with my 1st and even more lucky it was in the bathroom...(easy to clean up!) haha..

So I was curious...to any mama's who had their water break on its own or know of someone else who did, where were you when it happened? Did it become a dramatic scene?!

I was in the hospital already because labor started that morning.  It was probably about 5 hours later and I was in my hospital bed and felt something.  I told them I thought my water just broke, and no one believed me.  At this point we'd already determined DS was breech and we were doing a c-section so it didn't matter.

My water broke with a very small trickle with my first, I was at work and afterwards went out to dinner with DH.  It was so small I didn't even know that's what I was until several hours when it started to increase and turn pink.  I was at home at this point and it was manageable with a pad.  We packed and headed to the hospital and when I stood up in the ER after checking in it gushed big time!  I was mortified and so surprised and they just kept saying it's ok, it happens all the time.

induced with ds, so the dr broke my water at 10cm. with dd, i was asleep (eek) and felt a weird bubble, jumped out of bed and it gushed all over my bedroom floor. luckily we have hardwood floors so no real mess and my jammie pants took the brunt of it.

At 5am in bed, just after peeing and during a wicked BH contraction (all of the sudden I felt relief!). It was more of a moderate trickle than a gush, but since I had just peed, I knew something was up. Unfortunately 36 hours labor still had no ramped up, so I was induced.

On my couch at home. No big deal, took a shower while I waited for DH to get home, then headed to the hospital.

The first time mine broke I was in the bathroom at home and it was just a small trickle. Second time I was in bed and felt like I just started my period, ran to the bathroom and a little more came out. I never had the big gush though. As soon as my water broke with my 2nd baby, contractions started and we went straight to the hospital for my c-section.

I had an induction with my 2nd, but with my first, my water broke as I was getting into bed. I didn't have any contractions, though, so I put down some folded towels and slept a few hours before I showered and we headed to the hospital. It was not dramatic at all.

With my first child it broke at home and it was not what I expected. There was lots of blood- non stop and clots the size of the palm of my hand.

With my second child (termination of pregnancy at 27 weeks) it broke on its own after being induced- there was a small amount of blood and some fluid.

Both experiences were very different.

Mine broke in the hospital bed 18ish hours after my labor started. Everyone was so excited, but I started to freak out. It felt like a ton of water. I had my baby 3 hours later.

Contractions got more painful after it broke! The only reason I made it through such a long labor was that water bag keepin it real.

Mine broke on the toilet. I had been losing my MP throughout the day. It took a few hours before contractions really picked up.

My water broke on it's own both times.  With #1 I was in very early labor and walking around the hospital - it was a tiny but noticeable gush.  With #2, it didn't break until I was about to push.

Mine was in the hospital, on the toilet whilst in labor - felt a pop then just trickled. It was the most graceful part of the whole ordeal!

My friend was in a shopping centre with her husband and just gushed!

It's only dramatic if its totally unexpected and a huge gush. Both of which are fairly rare.

Wit my late loss, I was 17 weeks and throwing up in the kitchen sink when my incompetent cervix finally gave out- huge gush as my water broke. Panicked screaming, very dramatic.

This pregnancy I'm looking forward to letting a doc break it after I've been in labor a few hours. Not a fan of dramatic. Looking forward to boring.

I was 39 weeks and had just went to bed. An hour later I woke up thinking I had peed all over myself. I was soaked! I was only 1 cm when I got to the hospital. My contractions never started on their own and ended up on pit. 18 hours later I had an emergency c-section due to failure to advance. It definitely was not a dramatic scene like they make it out to be in the movies!

Yes, my water broke in bed and timeable contractions started almost immedeatly after.  I did know that was not the norm, though.

Mine broke at home while I was walking down the stairs to go to the hospital. DS was born within 5 minutes (at home).
ETA I had contractions for a few hours leading up to this but they weren't 5 min apart (that I could feel).

No drama here- it broke after contracting for awhile on the toilet. My first was a slow trickle so much so I didn't know it had. The second time it was gushing every time I stood or walked- not fun walking into l& D with soggy shoes.

My SIL somewhere in Greenville ave on the way, haha

She was crowning when she got to the hospital and they asked her "how long ago did your water break?" she said "hell, I don't know somewhere on Greenville Ave all over the truck!"

She had him out 10 mins later. but to her credit she told her OB she was having contractions that morning and they told her to come in when she felt like she has dying... Ugh my SIL is the most literal person we know. My other SIL had to tell her to go to the hospital with her DH driving and she almost didn't make it.

With my first my water broke at home while I was alone and my husband was out in the woods hunting. I was getting off the couch to go to the bathroom because I had to pee and at first I thought I was peeing myself but it wouldn't stop. I even debated on whether to call my hubby or not because I hadn't had any type of pain yet and he would have been pissed if I called him out of the woods because I couldn't stop pissing my pants.  

I had my daughter at the hospital 3 hours after my water broke at home. They told me to stay close by for this one.

I was 2 cm dilated from weeks 28-36 due to preterm labor. I woke up one morning in my 36th week and felt a bubble in my stomach. I stood up out of our bed and was leaking so I went to the bathroom. I wiped and it was pink.

I went to the hospital and it just kept trickling. I was still 2 cm when I arrived to the hospital. It took me about 5-6 hours to become fully dilated. Had my son not long after that.

Felt a small burst crawling into bed around midnight...loaded kids up and headed to grandparents to drop off when it full blown broke while leaning back to give them hugs.

Mine broke in bed, but was just a trickle, ran to the bathroom and then had the huge gush over the toilet at first I thought I just had to pee and was peeing myself but when it kept coming and coming I realized my water broke

still too soon for that to happen for me, I will come back to post though once I'm due and my water breaks.

I truly hope it doesn't break in bed though..wouldn't want to head to the hospital and come back after giving birth with a new born to a wet mattress and sheets..arrgh

I was in the hospital lying in the bed. I had an epidural already so my legs were numb but suddenly the bed felt warm. I pulled back the covers to find myself lying in green meconium stained fluid! My doc came in right after and I freaked out about the meconium but she wasn't worried since lo was breech and wouldn't swallow anything. I think I was fully dilated or close to it by the time it broke.

Mine broke in bed at midnight while I was watching Miss Congeniality.  I rolled over and a hugh gush came out.  I got up to go to the bathroom, took my underwear down and my mucus plug fell out onto the floor right at my husband's feet.  I will never forget his face.  My contractions started about 10 mins later and 5 hours after that at 8cm dialated I had my c-section since she was found breech.

I was sitting on the couch watching TV w DH after dinner. I didn't realize at first thats what it was. It was a little trickle, and only when I sat a certain way. I went into labour maybe 2 hrs later. I was 37w1d.

(Lurking) Note to self: Sleep on a towel or invest in a waterproof mattress pad when I get close to the end. I'll also be sure to have towels in my vehicle for the trip to the hospital. I never experienced my water breaking since I had an emergency c/s but I hope to experience it this time since I want a VBAC.

My water broke on it's own about half an hour before I had any contractions and 4 hours before baby was born.  It happened in bed and I thought I had pee'd myself but the water flow never stopped... It just kept going and going and going and going.

With DD1, my water broke at work, sitting at my desk. It was as awesome as it sounds. However, I wasn't in labor -- I went to the doc, went home to hang out/shower/eat, and then to the hospital later that night because contractions weren't progressing at all. Ended up on Pitocin for over 16 hours before things finally picked up. All in all, from water break to birth was 36 hours.

I woke in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom where I wiped a tiny bit of blood. I laid back down but felt a huge cramp and it just felt like my period was about to start. I ran back into the bathroom expecting more blood but instead my water broke right over the toliet.

My water started leaking a very, very slow leak while I was sleeping. I woke up in the morning with slightly wet pajama bottoms, and couldn't quite convince myself that it was actually amniotic fluid. It kept leaking very gradually throughout the day until I finally went in to labor and delivery (per my OB's request) around 3pm, and they did the ferning test and determined it was a leak. Even after they started Pitocin (the leak had gone on for 12 hours without me having a single contraction,) it never really "gushed" out. They had me doing different moves like lunges to try to get my son to turn because he was face up, and every time I would do one, some more fluid would come out. Definitely a more noticeable amount than before, but still not really a gush.

Mine broke at home after contractions started. I was on the couch and felt a gush, ran to the bathroom and more came out. I felt a slow trickle during te drive to te hospital. Mine only partially broke, and the delivery OB broke it the rest of the way after my epidural.

Mine was also not very dramatic - it happened in the bathroom. Went to go pee, stood up and water just kept coming. It took me a minute to realize I wasn't peeing on myself.
