Ink Stains?

Ok, so a local mom gave me a couple girly pockets since she's having a little boy for number 2. They're in great condition, despite being well-loved. There are some ink stains on the PUL, though (a pen exploded in the dryer and didn't get leaned up before the diapers were washed (which I know means the PUL and elastics probably have a bit more wear from being dried)). Anyway... Do any of you have some suggestions for getting the spots out? I don't really mind, but it might be nice If I could get rid of them.

Re: Ink Stains?

  • Cheap hairspray. Saturate the stain then blot with a paper towel.

I have what I think is a "washable" kids paint on one of E's diaper covers.  It's been through several washes and not even faded.  Would hairspray or alcohol work on that?

  • You know, TJ, I find blue dawn works wonders on most stains... ;) (ink being the exception, obviously).

  • Yes, definitely. Maybe get some sand to scrub it.

Meanwhile, thanks ladies for the alcohol and hairspray tips. They definitely helped. I'm going to run them through the wash again and do another treatment when they're out :)

I used to buy hairspray by the gallon from a beauty supply store when I first married xh just because of the number of pens that would explode in his flight suits.....until he finally found better pens and/or learned to stop keeping pens in his pockets while flying.

I refuse to believe that you live in the state you live without owning hairspray. This does not compute.

I use hairspray, but it's expensive so if I need to use it for ink removal I buy a small can of cheap aerosol from the store.

  • @TJ1979, I technically own hairspray, but I only use it when I'm doing my hair up for something formal.  So probably once or twice a year.
  • I have a tiny can of some fancy hair spray I got free with purchase at the makeup store.  Does that count?  I wouldn't use it for stain removal though.
My mom uses hairspray every day.  I don't ever use it.  And I don't really do formal stuff, so I don't do my hair up fancy.  Maybe we are just lame.

I prefer to think it's more being blessed with natural good looks since I haven't used hairspray or makeup since before ds2 was born. I don't even know if I have any makeup in the house now that dd is gone......

Oh no, I don't leave the house without eyeliner!  But my hair?  That's a different story.

  • I'm with @Mapleme , I have a decent collection of makeup, hair products etc that I've bought for one reason or another, but I don't actually use most of them on a regular basis (especially not now that I'm not going into an office every day). I DO have some hairspray (although this effort just used the last bit) because if I ever want to curl my hair (which I only do for things like photos), I have to have it.

  • I'm not too concerned about it. G didn't have a name until a few hours after he was born, and I actually liked being able to see him first. If I'd had my way, we would have named him Lincoln, which I like, but so doesn't suit him at all! I figure we won't take her home without a name ;)

    Eggplant isn't even a fruit. It's a nightshade.
