replacing elastic in fb

OK I have 2 fuzzibunz that need elastic replacement. Both in the waistband. One is a Large, the other is an XSmall. I looked on youtube to see how to do it, pretty simple, but my question for you all is this. Does anyone know how long I should cut the elastic? Or have any guidelines to help me figure it out? Thanks!

    Stretch out the waistband fully so that it's taut but not over stretched. Measure the elastic with your new elastic, then use half the length of the elastic plus about 3/4 to an inch for seam allowances and give. So if the length between seams is 10 inches when stretched, cut a piece about 6 inches long to replace it.

    Eta stretch your elastic before cutting it to make sure it will stretch the full length appropriately, but this is the guideline I use.
