Nurseries and Baby Gear

Nice to have toddler gear?

DD is 21 months and I'm seeing way more toddlers in wagons than strollers.  Which got me wondering:

What gear did you buy for your toddlers?  We're fairly on-the-go with DD.  But knowing how fast all her baby gear became useless to us I certainly don't want to go overboard.

Strongly considering a wagon, though...

  • We just bought one for DS second hand radio flyer for $30. He seriously has it tied to the back of his power wheels and drives it around the yard.

I love strollers so I refuse to move to a wagon.  That's a personal choice thing though!  We have recently gotten a Power Wheels Quad, big wooden playset for the yard and I want to add a balance bike soon too.  We love biking too and we have a trailer for that as well.

  • We are doing a balance bike, I'm skipping a wagon because I don't want to store it over winter and I think they are harder to pull and easier for kids to escape from.

  • OK, I think this confirms for me that we have enough "stuff"!

    Thanks!

  • My 2 year old won't stay in a stroller but he loves the wagon. I let him walk for every day trips but we always take the wagon to the zoo, beach, etc.

  • I swapped by diaper bag for a kid sized backpack and my son loves to carry it. He helps me pack it too. I love not having a diaper bag anymore.
  • DD got a wagon for her first BD and we used it a ton last summer for walks and I'm sure we'll do the same last year.

I also opted to sell my stroller and buy one with a taller seat back/ weight limit (Baby Jogger City Elite).

I've swapped out my traditional diaper bag for my Longchamp tote w/ my stuff + hers inside.  I'm loving my JuJuBe Be Quick for diapers/ wipes and then I throw in a sippy and snack and we're good to go.

  • We still use our lightweight stroller for trips to the mall, doctor's appointments, ect. There's no way LO will sit still in a wagon or a chair in the waiting room. We are looking at a tricycle for LO with the handle for the park and walks around the neighborhood.

  • I still have my stroller because I go running with DD and I also use it when I have to take DD to my OB appointments because it's the only way to contain her.

I have an all terrain wagon that my brother in law got DD for christmas. We put her in it and go for walks every once in a while but it's mostly used as a pack mule for trips to the beach or filled with gardening stuff.

We also have a bike seat for DD. She loves to go for bike rides with us so that was a pretty good investment.

DD has a balance bike and a trike but she is still too short to use both of those. Otherwise our big outdoor toys that get used all the time are the swing set and sandbox.

  • haha we have almost all of the above.

We use the wagon for shorter outings around the neighbourhood - to the park, walks after dinner, etc.
Stroller for shopping, longer walks, etc.
Bike seat bc its awesome. Ours goes behind my seat, and she likes it just fine.
Balance bike - the Strider almost fit DD last year, no problems w size. We will not be getting a trike or anything else like that.
