It appears I've developed an allergy to the sesame oil that my PRogesterone is in :-q

I had burning that I attributed to my DH hitting a nerve on injection... But now I have a rash on my bum and I spoke with the pharmacist and her first reaction confirmed the reason for my call.... It appears I've developed an allergy to either sesame or peanuts. So I'm going to have to switch to another oil; frustratingly though.... The other oils aren't covered by my RX ins.

Sorry to hear that :-( At least there are alternatives. How much longer are they going to have you on the injections?

I'm not sure. Usually my re says until you are past the 10 week mark.....which leaves me with at least 4.5 weeks..... But i will find out next week when I go in for my u/s

Are progesterone suppositories an option for you? Our RE offered this as an alternative to PIO for us.

Yes, as PP said, my RE actually wanted to ween me off of PIO starting around week 6 and switch to suppositories for the final month, but I (probably surprising) told them I'd rather just stay on the PIO than mess with suppositories. Of course, I don't have an issue with the oil or else I probably would.

I will have to see what my RE says when I see him next week. I'm not confident that he will want me to switch considering he told me that he feels my vag "isn't very absorbent" after my last failed FET when I was on the suppositories. Maybe he will change his tune; but I have a feeling I'm just going to have to fork over the money for the olive oil PIO.

Can you get a prior authorization and have the coverage overridden since you're allergic to those oils?  I would think that they would make and exception and override that if you're allergic to what's covered, especially since you need the progesterone.

our  GC went on suppositories after our 6w appointment b/w confirmed it was high enough to switch.

another option is to call your insurance co to see if they will cover it because it is medically necessary.

I have been on Crinone. I haven't found it to be too bad.  I am not sure why some people get PIO and others get suppositories. i really don't find Crinone too bad

I ended up being allergic to a few different oils. Had a special order from Maine.

I was on crinone my first FET and it failed. My RE felt that my lack of progesterone played a big part in the failure of that cycle so my RE said I had to do the PIO for this FET and I'm not complaining because I'm pregnant....

My pio was in ethyl oleate. No weird reaction for me. I've heard its a little thicker than peanut/sesame oil but I never tried the others.

I would contact your insurance and see if they will cover a different PIO now that you have a confirmed allergy to the one that they usually cover. I know that is what happened with me and an antibiotic. The insurance denied my doctor's script for Cipro in favor of the cheaper Bactrim...well, I am now deathly allergic to Bactrim (and they got to pay for that ER trip) and now my insurance never questions when I am on Cipro since I can't have the cheaper drug or I will die.
