Baby Names

Which do you prefer and why?

I am like a blink pregnant, but I am a name addict and like to be prepared. We have a boys name picked out but are struggling with a girl name. So far we like:

Eloise Grey
or
Grey Eloise

I am leaning toward Eloise Grey, but each of my son's only have 4 letters in their names, so Grey would go better.

Also my boys names are: Jack Isaiah and Reid Ezekiel

I would forget about the 4 letter thing or pick a different 4 letter girl name. I don't like Grey AT ALL for a girl. Sounds totally boy to me.

    I do really like Eloise.

I prefer Eloise to Grey by a lot. Grey is going to verge on trendy fairly soon IMO.  With Greyson and then the all new Gracynn or Gracelynn, and now Grey being thrown in I see it becoming trendy. Your boy names are GREAT and I feel Eloise is along their style and more timeless.
Thank you, the "trendy" aspect is what makes me the most nervous. I do have to say I like Grey, but DH LOVES it. I think as long as it was in the potential daughters name he would be cool with it. You think it's too horrible as a mn?

Grey is not a name for a human.  Sometimes people put it on males, but really - it's not a name.

    Eloise Grey.

EDIT: You're overthinking the number of letters thing.
OMG I know! Lol, it's like a weird ocd tick.

I'm fine with Grey as the mn.

It's great as a mn. I would use Eloise Grey.

I get the OCD thing with the number of letters. I realized well after my kids were born and named that they both have the same number of letters and what ever they start with, they end with.  It made me freak thinking everyone would assume I did it on purpose.  My husband assured me I was crazy and that no one in their right mind would also think that and it's a non issue for future kids. He's right.

You make me feel so much less crazy. All my friends are like, "No one will ever notice, like ever." lol

  • I really don't understand the appeal of Grey.  All it makes me think of is 50 Shades of Trash, and the somber color.

Eloise with Grey as a MN, if you must.

I love Eloise. Grey is NMS but definitely not on a girl. Too masculine sounding. If I heard a Jack, Reid, Grey sibset I'd assume you had three boys.
This. Although I don't mind Grey as a middle name for a girl.

I think Jack, Reid, and Eloise is a great sibset. As for the numbers thing? Your boys have four, your girls have more. Ha!

I just don't think Grey is very pretty. It's a blah color.

  • I would use Grey as a middle name or not at all.

I do like Eloise a lot but I totally get wanting the 4 letter name too. Maybe there is another 4 letter name you guys like?

  • I think no matter what Grey will be in there somewhere. I love Eloise and it's nice hearing that others think it goes well with Jack and Reid. I would be much more concerned about the numbers in the name if it were another boy... Hmm lots to ponder on. I hope I can get DH on board with Eloise Grey

  • Another Eloise Grey vote here.  I agree that Grey is a male name, but I like it as a mn.  Definitely refreshing that it isn't Grace!!  And please use Eloise...I don't think I'll ever get to use it, and it's lovely.

  • Grey is a very sweet & unique first name.. Eloise is NMS, but would make a good middle name in my opinion.

I knew a girl named Grey in school & I was always so envious of such a cool name.

I don't like Grey as a name at all, and certainly not for a girl.  Eloise Grey if you absolutely must use it.  Would you consider Grace?  It's popular, and not 4 letters, but at least it's feminine (and an actual name).  Or Greta?

  • MN spot always gets a pass from me. I like Eloise as a FN better. Some people are into color names, I get that. I also get that grey is an interesting color. But I think that Eloise makes for a better FN because it flows better from the mouth and looks prettier written down. Secondarily it stands the test of time and doesn't sound dated. Grey is more of a "now" kind if thing.

  • In a strange way, I *almost* get the appeal of Grey Eloise.  When said together, the name has a superhero feel, which I tend to like.  However, she'll be called just "Grey" most of the time, so that defeats the purpose (unless you have an awesome last name).

I like Eloise Grey.  If you want a 4-letter name, what about Elle?  (I am SO sick of the Ella's and Ellie's, but I can still tolerate Elle).  There is also Elin.

Or...You can always do Jean Grey and really keep things super superhero-y ;)

  • Both choices sound great! Even if Grey becomes a "thing" for girls, I really can't imagine that huge #s of people will choose it. Good luck with your choice!
