With all the pictures of everyone's awesome nurseries being posted, I want to know: What is/are the most inappropriate nursery themes you have seen/heard of, or can think of (that you would never do/ want to see? Aaaaand go!
Isn't there someone on this board with that (nightmare before Christmas) theme as their nursery? I vaugely remember seeing pics in the finished nurseries thread. Awkward.
I tend to think overaly themed nurseries are creepy in general, whether it be Mickey Mouse or nightmare before Christmas. It's all the same amount of creepy and weird in my mind.
Not to be totally catty, but that Dia de los Muertos nursery looks pretty half-assed anyway. Also, clowns. Clowns are always the most inappropriate nursery theme ever.

This makes me think of the movie Problem Child 2. Anyone remember that clown room?

I was going to say that but didn't want to sound too mean. now I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it!
I've always been freaked out by the idea of a room full of dolls. Not kids' baby dolls but the realistic Madame Alexander type whose eyes follow you around the room. I had an aunt with a doll room, and she always put me in it when I visited. It's not actually inappropriate, but it's sooooo creepy.

I was "lucky" enough to have a clown themed nursery. I was even more lucky to have a dad who thought that Killer Klowns from Outer Space was an appropriate movie to watch in front of a 3 year old. Cue constant nightmares that the clowns were going to come off of the wall and eat me.
There was also a picture of a hobo style clown with a little girl that looked eerily similar to me. It used to creep me out so much.
To this day, I despise clowns and they still give me the heebie jeebies.
I think camo/hunting nurseries are crap. I guess really anything that overtly projects the parents' hobby/lifestyle onto a baby is crap, like @awc1986 mentioned. I know to an extent we all project a little bit. My husband loves baseball and he wants to hang this cheesy framed baseball poster up in the nursery and I'm ok with it, mainly because I won't let him hang it up anywhere else in the house, but I would never do a baseball themed nursery. What if Henry isn't into baseball? There's a huge difference between looking at a picture of a famous old ball player and growing up in a mausoleum of parental hopes & dreams.
Like pp said anything that's overly themed on the parents hopes and dreams. Always wanted to be a ballerina but never got there? Let's puke ballet theme in the little girls nursery. I also really dislike anything overly cartoonish for example, jungle themes or winne the pooh...that's me though. However I think if someone ever did a dexter theme that'd be insane, blood splatter walls abyone? Oh oh! Plastic covered furniture? Lol
As for the parents' hobbies forcing stuff onto kids theory, what if little Sally really hates pink or Johnny despises the color blue? Obviously we have all picked themes/colors that we like. Unless someone here chose something they find ugly because their kid came to them in a vision and said that's what they want. In which case I will admit to fully being wrong. Then probably recommend you get your head checked. Oh or maybe we all need to have plain white nurseries with nothing on the walls so the kid can chose later when they can express their wishes? I see a huge difference between doing a baseball themed nursery and forcing a kid to love baseball.

Well I guess one is just decorating preferences, and the other may feel like expectations for behavior and/or interests. It has definitely crossed my mind that when Henry is a little older, he might hate everything I so lovingly picked out.
I decorated the room for me. When my kid gets older I will help him redecorate it for him. I am the firm believer the nursery is more for the parents than the kids at this point. So my baby boys room paint color is a purple grey and is accented with aqua, yellow and orange. When/if he decides he hates it we will change it.

I'm doing Dr. Seuss. I have zero expectations that my kid will love Dr. Seuss as much as I do. Just like I had no expectation for DS to love sock monkeys. He does however love his sock monkey my grandma made for him.

We went with a pirate theme. In truth, a big reason for it was that I already had a lot of nautical and pirate themed decor. My other reason for it is that the nursery is the large sitting/lounge area of our master bedroom, so once LO is ready for his own space, I can keep a lot of the nautical theme for our room and just make it a little more grown up.
We didn't want the nursery to be too gender specific, as we don't know if she's going to be a real girly girl or more of a tomboy. Sounds silly at this stage but we don't want to redecorate too soon. Can't afford it! We've gone for light green walls and an artist friend of ours has painted some "jetsons" style space characters on some of the walls. Then we have some children's vinyl records hung up on one wall and we're just waiting on the white crib and dresser to come next week. The theme is "fun kids stuff" really.
