Cloth Diapering

Dreft for diapers?

I'm assuming not safe right? I'm at my in laws and that's what they bought for us to use for her ( we don't use it at home)

Re: Dreft for diapers?

  • They are softbum and thirsties

  • I wouldn't even use dreft on clothes. What is their regular detergent? Any regular powder detergent anywhere?

  • I just checked the ingredients on the Dreft website and it contains fragrance, brighteners, and enzymes. Most diaper companies recommend avoiding these ingredients. Some babies do okay with some fragrance. Definitely you want to avoid brighteners and enzymes. The liquid Dreft has even more ingredients, which I assume are some of the same ingredients in other liquid detergents that can cause problems.

That said, if you have nothing else I would give it a try. If you start to have problems you can take steps to fix it. Also, take note of what type of water they have and make adjustments to your routing and detergent quantities if you need to. How long are you there/ how many times do you expect to wash there?

And finally, when we travel I bring our own diaper detergent. Makes life a lot easier.
  • I'm hoping tide. I'm alone inside and they are outside messing with a fire. Not sure where the detergent is at.
  • Look in the laundry room. ;)

  • Also nervous because it's a front loader washer - but it will only be one wash while we are here so here's to hoping :)
  • It'll be fine. I use a HEFL all the time. Ask if it's hard or soft water. If it's soft use less detergent than normal.

  • How far are you from the nearest store?
  • And how often do you visit? Maybe you can buy some CD safe detergent and leave it there. But for just one load every now and then, I would just put a little bit in a small container and bring it with me.
  • We are a good hour from any store:(
  • In your situation I would use whichever detergent you feel would leave the least amount of residue. And rinse really, really well. I might even add a hot or warm rinse at the end.
  • Gas station? They may have travel size detergents.

  • I THiNK we have enough cloth to get by until morning and church in which case I'll get some detergent then to keep at their house . I had meant to bring a pack of disposables and just use those once we ran out of cloth and wash once we got home BUT I forgot to pack them. It's our first ever overnight away from home ( 1 month old) so their was a lot to remember to pack.
  • Homemade? Borax, oxyclean, and washing soda?

Brave soul! Traveling with such a wee one. I'd not worry about it and either get some detergent in town tomorrow.
