Can I ask you for your free internet vet advice?
My dog ate another nipple shield. (I've been really good at keeping it in tupperwear and away from him but I got distracted, went to change Abby, and the lid wasn't closed all the way). This was Wednesday about 4pm. He pooped Thursday around 11am, no shield and pooped again Friday around 6pm, no shield. At least I don't see the shield like I did last time. Dh watches him in the early morning and says he hasn't pooped for him but not sure how well he watches (last time he said he pooped but no shield and I looked at the poop and could see the entire shield, so dh isn't very reliable). Sorry for the long story. Guess I'm asking if I should be hugely concerned about the shield if he is still pooping. What is your opinion? And do you know if I took him to the vet, would the shield even show up in an X-ray if they had to take one since it is a clear, thin piece of plastic. He isn't acting in any kind of pain and his stomach is soft still. I'm sure it can take a while for a back up to occur.
Sorry to bother you about this but hoping to get some insight before taking him to the vet. I'm hoping since he is still pooping, there really isn't a reason to bring him. And if I remember correctly, they told me last time to bring him in if he seemed in pain and/or wasn't pooping. I can call them Monday but again, hoping for some free internet advice. TIA!!!

Thank you so much!! Honestly, not too sure about what his normal number of poops are only because we have a fenced in back yard that he can freely roam and go as needed so we usually don't watch him. He eats twice a day. No vomiting. I will give them a call today (right now). Thanks again for the info and telling me about the X-rays. That makes sense!

I called and talked to the tech. She thinks if it is passing, it already did and maybe he just chewed it better this time. She also said to look for less or no pooping or running, liquid poops. And if he vomits, he needs to come in. She said to look for behavioral changes or discomfort laying down (he stills wants belly rubs which she said was good). Still keeping an eye on him. I searched the yard today for fresh poop but I didn't find it. The tech said her cat chewed up and ate bottle nipples three times and had to have three surgeries! Poor cat but at least I felt better that even the vet tech has naughty pets that keep doing the same dumb things.

Also, do you think maybe he didn't eat it this time, maybe played with it and has it laying around somewhere on the floor or under some furniture? I had a dog once who was notorious for hiding toys.

No updates @esd. We were at a family thing all day but he gobbled down his dinner when we got home. But didn't poop. I'm thinking even if it doesn't get worse, I may take him Monday get the X-ray, unless I see him poop it out. I don't want him to suddenly get sick. Thanks for checking in! Will keep you updated!!!

@aneubecker oh he swallowed it. I walked in the room as he finished up and swallowed. I ran over but was too late. He is a bad dog. Just do cute!
