Cloth Diapering

Ouch! TMI warning.

Okay, so due to some recent stress my milk supply dipped and I find myself thinking I have PP AF returning today. I'm at work and put in a tampon I had stashed in my desk and it was so uncomfortable! The constant sitting and standing made it move and pinch until I finally just threw it out and am sitting on paper towel now. The scratchy paper towel feels amazingly better by comparison, so I dread putting another tampon in! I don't know if it will last for more cycles once my milk ups itself, but I now find myself looking into mama cloth.

I did a search back and read quite a few posts about this. I already looked up Pink Lemonade Shop and C-Pop Commodities on Etsy per recommendations here a while back. Anyone have any favorite brands they want to rave about? Also, I only wear the Lacie thong from VS, so should I only consider "thong" cloth cuts, or will regular cuts work just as well. Obviously I know having extra fabric hang over or wrap around the thong isn't a big deal, just looking for others' experiences. TIA!

  • No, I did start. I'm just not sure if this will be like a today-only type of thing, or a whole cycle. PPAF has teased me before my when supply has dipped.

  • When you're fairly recently post partum your body basically acts like you're in menopause and things get reeeaaaaallly dry and thin walled down there, so yeah things like a tampon can be super uncomfortable, but it should get better with time.

  • Also, I know I'll deal with this cycle right now, but I'm thinking mama cloth down the road, and perhaps sooner rather than later  :((

  • I finally got to wear the Charlie Banana ones I bought while waiting for my cycle to return. I liked them well enough that I just ordered me some more. I have an open pack of sposie pads that will be hanging out around here until dd uses them and/or I can convince her to try the reusables. Since I didn't have enough reusable ones yet, I had to use sposies too this round.....I couldn't stand how gross I felt while wearing them.....and I almost forgot I was wearing the reusable ones, even the Glad Rags ones that I don't like as well.

  • @Mapleme the Glad Rags ones are bulkier and you can't fold them in for transport and they lack a waterproof layer so I can see leaking through them on a heavy flow day. The CB ones are aio type with a plushier top layer, they fold in so transport is easier with/without wetbag, and the wings and backing are more waterproof so less fear of leaking. I truly forgot I had a CB one on yesterday. I also liked how much nicer the CB ones looked after washing. The GR ones were stained after one use.

  • I'm on the fence with tampons now. They are fine during heavy flow but uncomfortable during light flow.

My mom suggested using my preemie prefolds.

  • I haven't tried Mama Cloth, so don't let me sway you away from trying it.

I will say that for me post DS1 I hated tampons for a long while.  Then one day AF surprised me at work & a friend gave me one of her OB tampons to use.  As it turned out OB fit better for me post-baby than the Playtex I had used pre-baby.  So your uncomfortableness might be due to poor fit, and a different brand might work better.  Just a thought.

  • You could also check out a cup. I like it better than anything else I've tried and it requires minimal maintenance. It took a little getting used to, but was pretty easy.

  • I have some cheapie mama cloth that I got on ebay.  They have bamboo cotton on the top and minky with PUL in the back.  I love them and have since ordered a bunch from a co-op so I can have a full mam cloth stash.  Switched to cloth to see if it'd help my endo cramps.. not for any post pardom reasons.. but I soo wish I switched sooner.  They are so much more comfy than disposable pads.. and my cramps are less now too.

I tried a cup, but the one I got is just not the right shape for me so it was money wasted.  :(  I ordered a Sckoon cup the other day.. hoping this works or I just give up on cups.. They cost too much for me to keep trying to find one that works for me.

  • @bookitup‌ what size do you own? I will measure and make a guess, but just curious.

  • Try slim fit, junior, or light tampons especially for lighter flow--or use them on heavier days, just change more often. They're slimmer fit and feel better.
